Building a Ski Rack

Since I like to take my boards with me some days out in the mountains, I am wondering if anyone out there has built a ski rack for there REV. There are some good ones out there for a couple of hundred bucks but generally I can fab something up that is as good or better....

Just wondering if anyone out there has some good ideas?

A second vote for Cheetah Factory Racing products. Dave is an innovator to the snowmobile industry and builds a great product.

i asked the same question a while back. knight rider also makes a good product. i'm not sure if it will work with mine thought since i put the rear steps on. we'll see when i get out to golden and look closer at em.

Knight rider?

I have a couple of the x-rack rigs, the yokes built into the rack hold skis or boards securely. The only issue I have had is with their bungee strap system of tie downs. I ended up replacing mine with a system of "Shockles" and webbing slings. http://www.shockles.com/

The CFR racks are much better in this regard.

The Cheetah Rack is awesome. If your able to build something, one of the coolest systems I saw build was a guy who basically took some old Thule racks and made then super short and bolted the tower to the tunnel and had two mini bars and then placed ski holders on them...simple and worked well. Sometimes though the money for parts, time to build is about the same as purchasing a sweet rack and going out to ride....:D

seems like the consensus from that thread on tgr is that an atv gun rack is the cheap solution for carrying skis. looks like it could work good for snowboard too. myself, i'm planning on making some CFR like U brackets out of a $9 cutting board i got at the grocery store and bolting 2 per side onto the side of the tunnel. i'll probably get some kind of d ring setup going on for putting straps over, that way when i am just out slednecking i don't have big bulky straps getting in the way.

The CFR ones look wicked and the Knight rider for snowboards but i am a little cheap sometimes. Just finished making mine using 2X6, hockey pucks, snowboard straps, and a milk crate. Cost of around $100, way too much time, and a tiny hole in my rad bath on my xp which i had to repair (really stupid mistake). If i were to do it again i would fork over the cash, but i am stubborn and like making stuff. Seems super solid, i will try and send a pic.

I'm a big fan of my CFR rack. Last season it took quite a beating.

First I rammed my rear tunnel into a tree mid January and the CFR survived, can't say the same for my tunnel. Then later in the season after I rebuilt the tunnel I rolled my sled a good 10-15 times, bending my bars, and my powermadd riser, and the CFR walked away unscathed, with my board attached. After a season of watching my bro's drop boards on j-rigged setups, hassle with dragging a board back after breaking a critical part of their rack, etc.. I'm glad I put down the cash on a setup that works, all the time. My only buddy that has something that seems to work is a pretty good replica of my CF rack that he fabricated.

In the end, you want something that works all the time so you can forget your ski/snowboard gear is even there.

I have an affordable snowboard/ski Rack for you!

Check out www.snowmoboarderusa.com. My system bolts onto your nose to keep the boards up out of the snow and out of your way! let me know what you think! I will have them in the snow on the 13th for the first time, they will be up for sale after that (as long as they test as planned.) if you want to pre order let me know via the website!

ATV gun racks are the ticket. We've been using some we ordered from Bass Pro Shops. The Finn Pro-handlebar mount. I mount them along the running boards of the sled. On some sleds you mount one on the rear bumper or the top of the tunnel and the other along the running board. We also attach a small bungee cord to each one as a back up for the rubber strap and to hold on the ski poles. They are under $30 and work great. I have never had the skis fly off and this is after pounding through rough trails for seven miles. You can remove them in a minute and they weigh very little. Use loctite on the threads holding the U shape holder to the base and angle the holders so they squeeze the skis. Leave enough space so the bindings fit between the mounts. Hope this helps, it has worked great for three of us for a year.

CFR all the way......everything else is cheap knock off wannabees and after all the money and time wasted youll end up with one anyways...lol!!!

Lots of good ideas out there everyone. Here are some pics of my prototype. I used 1/2 inch square tubing with cutting board on the posts to protect my skis. One snowboard ratchet strap on each side keeps the skis on. It is quick and simple and I don't envision anything falling off.

It is very strong you could pick up the sled with the skis if you wanted to. And I left lots of room for my legs up front so I can still ride.

Cheetah racks look good but a little to spendy for me.

I even managed to not drill through my coolers
