Buffalo Pass

We finally got up to Buffalo Pass on Thursday and Friday. Snow was awesome, waist to chest deep in meadows, but thin in places along the power lines. Hit a jump at the first meadow at the top of the power lines and landed on a bare stump and a pile of rocks. Took out LH lower a-arm, and put a hole in the left side panel. Totally my fault, following another rider coming uphill from the meadow hitting 8-10 ft drifts at the top and wham! Used the same rock to smash the a-arm flat enough to ride the rest of Thursday and Friday. We stayed at North Park Inn, in Walden. Dave is a great guy. He let us work on the smashed up 900 in his heated garage, even let us use some tools. Greatly appreciated beings the outside temp. was a cool -28 below. The rooms were spotless, the pillow top beds were sweet! The 12 person hot tub was a nice place to be after a cold hard day of riding. If anyone is looking for a place to stay. The North Park Inn is the place! I also would like to thank everyone on the forum for suggesting this place.:D

Were coming out on the 26th of this month, sounds like there is good snow and I hope they get some more also:D We are staying at Dave's place also, it sounds very nice!! We got one of the cabins to stay in.:beer;

Maybe a dumb question but what is the difference between buffalo pass and rabbit ears?? Are they the same riding area or completely different locations? Im looking at going riding up there this weekend and would like to know where buffalo pass is related to rabbit ears?

RE is 13 miles south of Buff. Two trailheads much closer, one out of Steamboat and one near Walden. If you put in at RE, you may never make it to Buff if the snow is good. lol

Couple of quick vid clips from a new helmet cam, no the best it's a work in progess. there were taken on Buff Pass Sunday 1/10.

We rode the Snowies on Saturday 1/9, first day with the helmet cam and just trashed the clips but had the trusty of camera. Here's some shots from there.

I wear that exact same helmet...can't beat how light it is! And hey I rode buff pass on Sunday too!

So what would you guys recommend? Im leaving tonight to head up towards steamboat, but I have my motorhome and a 37 foot trailer so all together I'm 81 feet long. I wanna ride some good snow up there, where would you recommend parking and riding at?

Don't park at the lot outside of steamboat for buff pass. You will never get a rig like that turned around. It is a chore to turn around with a crew cab truck and a long 4 place. With a rig that big you may be limited to the top of rabbit ears pass. I am not sure how big the lot on the walden side is this year.

There are a couple of lots on the left before you get to the muddy creek lot as you come into Rabbit Ears. I have seen some deisel pushers with trailers parked on that side. Shoot you could probably get into MC it is usually empty during the week. Have seen a few big rigs in there. It would be tight though with the 37 foot trailer.

you looking for friends :)
