Just like a cell phone, if it isn't powered up while it's still wet it will be ok.
My buddy bought a cheap Ford Ranger for $500 when we were in college. One weekend we went out and did some lake drivin', long story short it went to the bottom. He just decided to leave it there, MOE found out it was there, found out it was his and charged $5000 a day till it was removed. Ended up costing him near $10g's for a $500 truck.
Please tell me whomever DIDNT hook onto the rear axle to pull it out of the water!
His insurance guy was here today and he is thinking a good detail should fix it![]()

Are the clearance lights still on? HAHA
Either that or it went in running!
Yes, it was running till it sucked in lake water and died. We put jumper cables on it at the shop and its got serious electrical issues. I was thinking bout buying it back from insurance but this truck just isnt worth much and they will want plenty.
Slipped out of gear??? Ya riiiiiight, that happens all of the time. Poor dude, what a loss.
One of Toyota's big claims was that all the electrical connections are water tight....I've heard of a few guys like you who have sank them, changed the fluids and good to go.I sank a toyota PU that far in the 80's. Left it sit overnight. Next day we pulled it out, Pulled the plugs and rolled engine over to insure no water on top of the pistons. Drained, oil/water out of engine. Filled it with kerosene. Ran at idle for 5 min. Drained and put new oil and filter. Drained water off bottom of differentials and tranny-manual. Drove home. Ran with heater on to dry out interior for 12 hrs.
I had it for three more years, never had a problem.
What has the insurance company said now? Are they gonna pay?
I could see them being difficult due to the economy and people upside down on loans and trying to total out their vehicle purposely to get out of it. Keep us informed. I'm not accusing anyone of doing that but interested if they are giving a hard time.
