Buddy just called and he sank his King ranch ford!

Just like a cell phone, if it isn't powered up while it's still wet it will be ok. ;)

My buddy bought a cheap Ford Ranger for $500 when we were in college. One weekend we went out and did some lake drivin', long story short it went to the bottom. He just decided to leave it there, MOE found out it was there, found out it was his and charged $5000 a day till it was removed. Ended up costing him near $10g's for a $500 truck.

Thats a good story....if I was the judge I would have givin him some jail time too. You don't think that is wrong? no different then all of the old beat up freezers and fridges people dump around here in the hills because it costs to get rid of them. YOUR MESS!!! CLEAN IT UP!!

Please tell me whomever DIDNT hook onto the rear axle to pull it out of the water!

It was hooked on the frame in front of the axle. The truck was sunk about midway up the box in the mud by the point we started pulling. That's why the divers were necessary to dig under and into the mud to get the rigging hooked up. The best we can figure out it was the suction as the truck was being pulled back the axle stuck in the mud. We found a bajillion crawdads in the cab when we got it out.

What!! So your saying everything is gonna dry out on it's own? How long is the guy supposed to leave it sit before that happens!

Wow, are you ever smart... :eek:

I recall a situation around 1996 in michagan. A guy tried to move a house accross a lake. It was a two story big house. Went good until he got near the edge at his destination. The ice was honeycombed a little and it went through in 4' of water. DNR got involved, fines etc, and they started looking at the whole picture and said the location he was moving it to was wetlands.... It sat there for a few weeks, he finall got it out

Either that or it went in running!

Yes, it was running till it sucked in lake water and died. We put jumper cables on it at the shop and its got serious electrical issues. I was thinking bout buying it back from insurance but this truck just isnt worth much and they will want plenty.

I was just wondering about the "project" aspect of this but you are right I bet they will want a lot to buy it back. But if not might be a good project.

I sank a toyota PU that far in the 80's. Left it sit overnight. Next day we pulled it out, Pulled the plugs and rolled engine over to insure no water on top of the pistons. Drained, oil/water out of engine. Filled it with kerosene. Ran at idle for 5 min. Drained and put new oil and filter. Drained water off bottom of differentials and tranny-manual. Drove home. Ran with heater on to dry out interior for 12 hrs.

I had it for three more years, never had a problem.
One of Toyota's big claims was that all the electrical connections are water tight....I've heard of a few guys like you who have sank them, changed the fluids and good to go.

That Ford will be a mess tho....any Superduty that's been sank or in a big accident has major elec. issues more often then not. Too bad, that truck is pimp.

What has the insurance company said now? Are they gonna pay?
I could see them being difficult due to the economy and people upside down on loans and trying to total out their vehicle purposely to get out of it. Keep us informed. I'm not accusing anyone of doing that but interested if they are giving a hard time.

Yeah my buddy commented on this and said its a good thing his was nearly paid for or they surely would of commenced an investigation. He had truck hauled a 150 miles to my shop so the ins. adusters assignement was delayed. He should have a final say tommorow or Tuesday at latest. I will report.

Ins. backed away from the detailing and trying to repair. Truck has fungus corrosion growing out of the obdII port already. They settled with him for 41850.00. I can buy the truck for 9600.00 if want it but NAH.:beer;
