BRP Official Statement on 2017 Gen 4 sleds

Have you been to a dealer and opened a claim at all?

If the dealer will not let you open a claim... this is a good place to talk about that with brpcare in a rational, factual way.

I have. Many times. Same answer! No fix at this time. They keep giving me new belts and parts that is damage from belt exploding.

Pulling out threads from primary, clutch case. Bending brackets back in to place so my cover fits. Braking in new belts. Its all 'part of the game' yeah right..... its like driving an tikking bomb. Not fun at all...

Shame because it's an great sled otherwise.

Just got back from a week of riding in Alaska.

On day 2 I bow my first belt and one day later my second belt ( broken in and about 200 miles on it ) stretched out so far that I was almost out of adjustment also had a dramatic performance loss and inconsistent shifting. I changed it and probably saved an other blow up. Had to buy a Gates belt as I could not get a Doo one. Sled runs a lot better more consistent but the clutches are still supper hot in these warm spring conditions with deep heavy snow. I will go down and see my dealer in the morning. I expect both my sleds to be updated so I don't need to worry every time I ride. Never blew a belt on my XM's and do not expect any less from my 850s. I payed my first season sled dues. Not complaining but my expectations are simple -- a permanent fix for both my
Sleds. I will stick with Doo if Doo backs me , its a simple relationship to me. By the way totally love this sled no Question there.

I opened a case with my dealer after contacting BRP directly. BRP told me to do it. (Strangely enough, two days after sending the original email to BRP, with no results, I posted my email on SW and suddenly there was a response telling me to take the sled in and have them open a case.) Their response to the dealer was to give me a belt and a lot of "We can't say what we are working on but there will be a resolution by next season."
Bullcrap. I am still riding, the season is not over.

A free belt is not a solution, it will be gone in less than 200 miles. It pays for one of the 5 belts that died an early life this year. I put on less than 1000 miles this year, because of this mess. (2700 miles last year, no issues.)

I love my dealer, 13 new Doos since 2013, but I am still on the fence about paying retail for a couple of Cats or dealing with this BS for another year.

My BRP case number that they provided is 889749, in case BRP cares.
(If they actually cared, they would take care of issues without threats of loss of sales or postings like this.)

I find it amusing and disappointing that the letter from BRP about how they acknowledge the issue and how they will take care of the issue comes right before snowcheck time, with promises to make it right, but NOBODY has had the issue actually made right!

One day left. As of right now I think I NOT going to buy a Gen 4. Nothing has changed from the XP days of lies and denial. What others have stated above is the EXACT responses XP owners back in 08 and 09.

I ordered a 2018 850 Summit and hope BRP comes through with their commitment to fix the G4 belt/clutch issues. They have put themselves out there with their posts on Snowest and Dootalk on this issue and seem sincere about fixing the issues.

I will take them at their word until they prove me wrong, but I understand why others might not take the chance.

I didn't snow check

I also passed on snow checking a 2018 Doo 850.

Brp did the right thing coming on here and talking about the clutch heat and belt blowing problem but they didn't come up with a fix in time to make me snow check!

I hope they come up with a fix for the guys that have belt problems!

Huge profits

Why? You made a fortune out of the 08/09 and all subsequent years. Enough to pay for two homes and a winter cottage up North in pow country. Maybe you should buy two of them ;)

LOL..... Yea, I have sold alot of shim kits, but its not about the money... Defnitly not enough to pay for a home :face-icon-small-ton. I just wanted to help the guys that did have belt issues that BRP turned their backs on. Yes, you could tune the clutch, add venting, etc.... and get the XP to hold a belt longer, but not everyone knows how nor wants to dig into clutching. They just wanna buy a sled, pull the cord and ride. 30 minutes and my kit made that possible.

Even though I am not 100% convinced with BRP, We did snowcheck 2 new Gen 4s. I think the changes they have announced as of now will help, but the real issue is not with the sled. Yes the clutching needed better calibration, but if the sled is not square that doesn't matter This is a manufacturing problem, either getting consistent parts from suppliers or the actual assembly process needs to be investigated. Maybe they should partner with Honda (as Cat did with Yammi) so Honda can come in and help straighten the screw together process out.

Either way, we are gonna give them a go. I really liked the Gen 4 I had seat time on last yr. I have already talked with some of the big players in the clutching game and we have some ideas (besides calibration) we think will help if BRP didn't figure it out on their own.

DFMEA and PFMEA meetings for Doo! No way I would snowcheck without a concrete resolution

I do not know about the rest of you but i would like to get my new sled and just ride it.Some like to pull there sleds apart and get every ounce of performance possible, but i have been a mech all my life and am tired of it.I keep up on the maintenance, the rest of the time i want to RIDE.

What about the fuel tank venting where fuel us pouring out by the left shock....and when you open the cap....fuel us flowing out! Thanks

BRP Thank you!!

Big move by BRP.

I for one still love my 850. I look forward to the updates. For those that are holding off... You are missing out. I rode mine again today and we had multiple axys guys going back and forth and all of them were impressed and likely going to make a change. Don't get me wrong the axys is a great sled... But having spent multiple days this year on one.. I'll take my 850 all day long. I have had a few issues but with Clutching and a couple of changes it is pulling hard and eating up the powder and steeps.

Still plenty of riding to be done this season.

I know two company's that make 800 that will smoke the 850, in my opinion it's a great big flop

Smoke it at what???? Drag racing, water skipping, time in the shop, overall weight? I'm positive your answer is the other 800 are better at everything, so your opinion doesn't mean much.

There is no perfect sled. There is no sled that excels ate everything. All brands have their pro's and cons. And that all changes from rider to rider.

I learned a long time ago, "No matter how BAD you are there's always something BADDER!" :face-icon-small-sho
