Broken spider

Has anyone see anything like this on a turbo nytro? I noticed there is an updated part number for the spider on the yamaha parts website. It looks like it was updated for the 2012 models. Does anyone know what the update involved? Stronger maybe? I think the spider broke first, which allowed the ramp to suddenly extend straight out, then break off.

i have 3 nytro primaries sitting under my bench with the same problem and not one of them were boosted sleds . this really makes me wonder if yamaha should do something about this

I had this happen to a clutch on my nytro also. It happened to mine at around 3500 miles with no turbo. I believe that mine was caused by extreme clutch heat keeping the sled wide open for 5 minutes at a time riding deep powder. the clutch got so hot it eventually cracked. All things considered it lasted longer than i thought. If this was an arctic cat or polaris i would be on 2nd or 3rd clutch at this mileage riding it hard. It does really suck when this clutch explodes at WOT though.

happened to mine at 2000 miles . rattle seems to be roller pins. apex clutch has set screws in spider for the roller pins and doesn,t seem to rattle as much.

There was a post a few days ago pertaining to the clutch rattle. I believe a SW member shimmed the spider (20 thou shim I believe) and it took out the rattle.

Mine is an 08. I've got over 4000 miles on it, but about 100 miles ago, everything still felt tight. There are many other nytros in my group with no problems yet.

How can one find out what was updated on the spider? Dealers don't typically have the information on what the change was. The part number changed from 8ES-17640-01-00 to 8ES-17640-02-00
