Broken drive shafts on 2016 axys??

I haven't ridden mine yet it's a 163" 2.6, so no personal info. I'm off to Revy Friday to ride a few days. So I was speaking with Rob Alford about snow conditions in Revy today, when he preceded to tell me of 3--2016 axys with broken drive shafts. He said they were all aluminum, aren't all axys shafts aluminum. Just like the 13 through 15, Or are the 3" track axys steel? Just looking for any real info. Thks

3....already? I'm not a believer without some sort of substantiation. After the collar fix we didn't hear of any more failures in our area. To suddenly have 3 is tough to believe.

No one was harmed or stuck in making of this pix:)

Uh....wasn't my sled guys. 250 miles on mine running 70g weights and freaking killing it while you sit on your computer saying bad things about someone that's not afraid to innovate and enhance a great sled!

I think it's super cool what he did with that tunnel dump, but most of us are just wondering if that has anything to do with his failure.

His tunnel dump has nothing to do with a drive shaft failure, he has a chaincase on his that has a steel drive shaft, not a glued aluminum drive shaft. I would sure like to know why there are failures when the aluminum shaft has a collar and not to mention smaller drivers.

Well, there's at least a few people that have a clue! I think the shaft was a fluke....probably left his brake on and hammered on of the many open lower mountain ditches. I mean I saw a guy on a Doo tonight lying dead next to his sled.....when I stopped to check it turns out he was trying to defrost his goggles!

BTW, the new belt is best as a spare because it is so hard it spools up to 8500 before coming back to 8100 (slippage).

I put my Gates on & 70g at 4500-6500 and it is killing the 15's in a bad way!

Put that in ur muffpot!

I'd like to know how a 2 page thread gets started from a hearsay phone conversation with a guy sponsored by Ski Doo ..... Over a dozen of the 16's I know of have been ripping around here with both steel and aluminum shafts ZERO issues. Believe what you see, not what you hear.

I was thinking the same thing, ski-doo sales must be down, lol :face-icon-small-hap

I stated what I was told and who told me. I've known and ridden with Rob for yrs, so I personally will not question his truthfulness to me, I'm well aware of who he's sponsored by. I was just trying to find out what actually happened. I broke a shaft in 2013, but have put thousands of miles on my 2014 and 2015 pros no problems. I to wonder about them hitting something but you don't know if ya don't ask. Not trying to bash the Axys at all I own one, just didn't want a hello bill if the glue job and fit got screwed up again.

Sitting at my buddy's shop tonight tinkering on his summit, he's storing a friend's 16 axys pro le 155x2.6 in his shop. Nosey me wanders over by it, cracked belly pan under the quick drive pulley and melted plastic on the quick drive belt. Pics aren't the greatest but they're pics to prove it nonetheless. This sled doesn't have a mile on it.

Not really a problem with the Axys. This happened at Dealer on my 13 Pro (new) before I got it. Picture attached. Usually caused by lifting and running while supported on the lower side plastic. I will put a guard on the lower quick drive section as I did on the 13 and inspect drive shaft clamp. But never had a belt or drive shaft problem and I dont anticipate one with my Axys. Cant wait to ride it. :face-icon-small-coo

Looks to me as though he hit something, like a rock. There is only a small split that pushes into the sled, and when the rock hit the spinning belt it caused a frey.. any one else?
