Broken drive shaft Saturday

Well i was coming down a hill with my breaks on and off and i heard a clunk and got my sled to stop. Broken drive shaft on the clutch side. Like sheered off out of the beering or something. Helicopter grabbed it today. Like 10 rides on it maybe. Lame weekend.

That really sucks! I would think it would break with the throttle wide open, not with the brakes on down hill. I'll be curious to follow up and see exactly what happened and why. Good luck.

The clamps were installed i believe but u cant see them can you? It sheered off right at the bearing at first glance. Taking it in tues after work. Polaris should pay for the helicopter this sucks with minimal rides on it. What a hassel my weekend was. Got home at 830 sat and had to drive to revelstoke to get my sled from the chopper pad today. Delt with Paul from Glacier Helicopters and he was a great guy to deal with.

you can clearly see the clamp unless maybe it fell off when it broke, sorry to hear though

He said clutch side, there's no clamp on clutch side only mag side

Sorry to hear about your sled. Heli rides are not cheep and every time means you had a bad day.
This is exactly why we at Happy Face have been pushing installing a collar on both ends of the 2013 Pro drive shafts. Ours will not migrate from it's correct location over time.
Both ends of the Polaris shafts are constructed with the same method that has proven not to work in some cases. It's all a gamble. Just when you think you have beaten the odds you read a post like this.
If anyone has any questions regarding solutions to this issue please give us a call. We will be happy to talk about your options. We do not care who's product you are using on your 2013 drive shaft. However we do care that you are using something to prevent this type of failure from happing to you.

Are you guys installing two clamps or just one on the driveshaft? I have two coming and am unsure as to whether to put both on.

We have not seen any need for two. It will not hurt anything.

Curious... Why the sudden change in "thought"

Also, where did you get the inspiration/idea for the Clamp /Collar??

OK you got me, Im Busted. LOL
The change of heart came when Polaris came out with their concept of a "fix" so we told our customers to put the Polaris clamp on the clutch side and our Collar on the drive side.
Now early on, we saw what some other folks were making for a solution to the problem (yours included) and we tried to improve upon it. If it wasn't for people like you and the others who got the ball rolling we would still be looking for solutions. I hope we never came across as not recognizing you and the others who launched this clamp concept. We all owe you and the others a big Thank You for grabbing the bull by the horns.

Wait for pics. May be a aluminum shear not a delam. Seems to be an issue starting in this area too. Aluminum shaft and steel bearing.

If what he is saying is true, sounds like the shaft snapped at the bearing? If this is true was it not made out of aluminum? If so does it not fatigue quickly, unlike steel? Ask yourself have you ever seen a tunnel crack after years of usage around rivets etc.... Now what will the hex shaft do over time next to the collars? Even thou the PTO side is neutral and has no torque applied, the track has quite a bit of pull. Hopefully, someone can tell me I am full of ----!

Mike

I paid 900 cash to get it out. Im asking to have the 2012 shaft installed in my sled. I have heard it is much stronger and wont have an issue.

That's a great idea. We swapped ours at 30 miles and 500 miles later we are still on the same driveshaft and QD belt. We also run between 8 and 12 pounds of boost.

That was a pretty cool response. Stand up in my book
