Broken carbon upper support??

Was talking to a buddy last night and he said the carbon upper supports on his 13 pro are both completely cracked and broken. He noticed a white powder on his engine and found that to be the cause. Has anyone seen this? He's only got 150 miles on the sled.

Your not suppose to turn those with a pipe wrench.:face-icon-small-dis
I was told the upper support tubing is stronger than the rear bumper tubing and I can hang my sled up in the air with that bumper. When I look at the upper structure it appears to me that all the force that is put on that tube is end to end and not side to side. But I am no expert. Anyway we have not had an issue with it.
If you are able to post some pics that would be great.:camera:

Pics would get alot of views on this site.

The warranty story should be interesting, too.

I can attest to the fragility of my former carbon fiber rear bumper. It's thin walled, thinner than carbon bike tube, don't know if it cracked/split from the flap or a track stand strap, be gentle my friends. They could have tripled the thickness and added 0.1 lbs. Costs are costs.

I have an ipod that can take pics, I got a beautiful little nikon pocket camera for my birthday awhile ago, I even bought a gopro a month ago but I haven't used it yet. For me the wheels fall off when I try to post pics to the internet, I'm a dummy when it comes to that kind of thing, so maybe if there isn't any pics right away it isn't because it's BS, maybe it's someone like me who needs a little help. :face-icon-small-blu

i have a 2013 pro rmk with 45 miles on it both carbon fiber overstrcutures broke on the first approach I hit. Polaris will not back there product b/c it didn't happen in the mountains Polaris can shove it up there ***. should of bought a cat. I do have pics of the right side. sent me an email.

What type of approach do you mean? Like cement embankment, fell off a trailer or the step up at X games type approach. And when you say sent me an email is that a request?

no it was just a normal field approach I had nothing against Polaris but seriously that is bull**** back up your product the claim 300% stronger than the previous pro rmk

JakeCAT Pics are worth a thousand posts, if you can't figure out how to post them you have my email address and I will. If you wanna text them to me pm me and I'll give you my number.

The reality is that it is likely 300% stronger, what they leave out is that CF does not bend or "Yield" like metal does. Metal has a Yield point well below it's breaking point (whether in tensile or shear). So rather than bending like the '11's & '12's it fails and you have apparently seen the effects of that.

I'm not saying the CF is bad, you just need to be aware that the individual strands of Carbon that they use to make the parts is only strong in tension (a straight pull). So to get a part that is strong in all directions multiple layers and strand orientation must be utilized. The question is did the engineer who specified to tubing take all the potential forces into account and did he specify the strand orientation properly. Also did the vendor actually make it to that specification.

Sorry for your loss, I hope Polaris does make it right.

Missed Approach

I have bad Field approaches all the time, I just wave off, throttle lift the flaps and go around, but never broke any over-structures. Guess I've been Lucky

Why do you say they are junk? How did he break them? Was he riding a trail, boondocking, jumping or hit something? I have had no problems what so ever with mine. I am sorry for your bud that his sleds down.

that is my own sled. read the previous comments you would know what they say.. I said they are junk b/c there is 40 miles on the sled and Polaris wouldn't back there product no trees, rocks, never rolled it, if it cant hold up to a little approach then the sure the hell aren't going to hold up in the mountains especially the guys running turbos. if u don't have problems its probably b/c u ride like a little girl, oh yea I own a 800 pro but a 440 would be plenty big
