Broken bolt in driveshaft

I know this has probably been talked about lots but this should be a good reminder for people to check before the begining of season.

I personally did not know about this being an issue until I bitched about it to a buddy.

I went to change my track out and pulled the drive chain off with no issue, went to go re-install it and the bolt that holds the gear to the driveshaft broke off with literally no effort from a 3/8 drive ratchet. Turns out the bolt was probably cracked before and ready to break. I drilled it and removed with almost no effort but it made my heart sink when it first happened.

After reading it turns out this happens lots but i'd rather replace with a 10.9 bolt now then have it break first ride and ruin something over one stupid bolt.

It will still break with a 10.9. At least mine all have. It can't cause any damage once the chain case is put back together. Every time I change my chain I have to get a new bolt because its broken.

The bolt part number was changed by yamaha and they look different. Any better, I don't know. Mine either backs off or breaks on a regular basis. Not sure what the deal is.

There are 2 ways to properly solve the problem. Either add a spacer between the sprocket and end of the driveshaft (can't remember the dimensions right now), or buy the updated driveshaft (which is longer).

There have been instances of the broken bolt wearing a hole through the chaincase side cover.

We have also tried everything even with the spacer we still break the bolt

even ran a whole season with no bolt but its tough to get it back together without the bolt holding it all together, we finally gave up on everything lol

We have had...

We have had good luck with the new Yamaha bolt. I change a lot of chains here at the shop, we have seen a dramatic decrease in broken bolts once updated to the new bolts.

part #

part number? and whats different?

Brendon, I would have to go looking for the number and I am behind big time right now. Unless you are buying old stock, Yamaha superseded the part number with the new bolt.

I will try to remember to text you with it later.

I check my chain case each year and I am now on year 3 of the lastest bolt. The old part has been superceded so the Yamaha parts fiche has the updated number.

Is this a Nytro problem or does it include Apex's?

I have been running turbo'ed Apex sleds for years and a turbo'ed RX-1 before that and never broke one.

Now another thing to worry about!!!!!

Bolt backed and broke case

Took my new to me push turbo boosted nytro out for the first time and get home to check it over and I have a hole in the chaincase and a bolt and snap ring hanging out of it. Called the dealer(under YES warranty) and they said common problem. Bring it in they said, now no riding for me till it's fixed, hopefully they'll cover it.
