Breckenridge area...looking for riding partners/guide

I usually ride in the Wyoming Tetons, but have access to lodging in the Breckenridge area for a good deal. Anyone ride in that area that is willing to show two guys around and make a few extra dollars? Any professional guides, etc? Is that even a good area to ride in? Any input is appreciated.

breck

You don't need to spend $$ to find people to ride w/ who know the area. I'd suggest driving about 45 min to Vail Pass (exit 190 - 1st exit past Copper Mtn). Very nice, extensive trails w/ other fun stuff to do - just stay away from the avy areas. $6 per rider/day use fee.

Honestly you could just park @ VP and look for some riders/groups to tag along with.

As for the (close to) Breck area - I'm sure there are some trails. You can also head south into South Park (Cottonwood, Buena Vista, etc.) - another 1 hr. ride.

Tons of riding right by Breck, Vail Pass is good but it gets pretty crazy up there (tons of people).

If you want to stick close to Breck, try the Swan River Drainage, and French Gulch area. These two valleys are 2 miles from downtown Breck (East). Both drainages connect and will take you up to a PLETHORA of riding for all styles....groomers to bowls and chutes. Once you hit the continental divide you can look out over SouthPark and keep going east if you want...till you hit pavement.

The Tiger Run tour group runs up there and grooms a route, then theres tons of roads that take off from the groomers......

Thanks for the input. Based on the tone of your responses, it sounds like Breck is more of a 'touristy' type area? I am not looking to ride the trails except to get to the places where I am going to get stuck. I want to go in the steep and deep and run over some vegitation.

absolutely NOT TOURISTY!!

go up tiger road til you make it to the good times parking lot. unload, go straight to middle fork, follow that groomed trail til it turns around. go straight where you see lots of "big boy" tracks. keep going.

you'll find **** up there that can and will kill you if you're not careful.

Summit, I totally agree with Formula, There is a ton of sick riding area up in the Breck area. You can also go left just before good times rentals and ride up to the bowl and then over to Montezuma where there is lots of hill climbs and areas to get stuck. PM me and maybe we can hook up. I know that area pretty well.

Infact, if you stay away from the Georgia Pass area you won't see any tour groups. The ride over to Montezuma is sick....if you can make it from Breck...the snow/drifts get pretty gnarly up there. I haven't ridden up there in a few years so I don't know if they still keep a groomer to link the two....

Keep a blind eye to them hills.....the Zuma Basin is a living breathing entity...

I work right next to tiger road & have spent a lot of time at zuma/ st johns area, if you're ever here on a weekday afternoon I could take off at 11 or 12 to go play.

Hey when are you planning on being in CO? We're comming out Jan 16th-26th and looking for riding buddies. We'll be staying in Boulder but we're down to go wherever...

Just drop me a line. I would be happy to show you around the area (just not the secret area's!). I live in Keystone and have been riding the Summit County area for years.

I have already gone up the jefferson side of georgia pass twice this december. I stay away from the breck side cause the tourists ride up there, but they always stop for pictures at the top and go back. They never come over the top. Anyway, the Jefferson side has some real good riding if you know where to go. Last time i was there the powder was insane and even the roads and trails had a couple feet of powder. As evidenced by our stuck truck:face-icon-small-fro

Did you guys see any avy activity ?

Nate,

No, haven't had anybody willing to come over here during the week (and there's no way in DENVER that I'm going over to breck on a weekend!!) to ride with me.

Rode zuma on wed last week though, WAY low on snow.

The sled is on the sled deck most days, so I'm down for a ride.

That work thing is a problem, you definately need to cut down on hours!!

Densnwbdr shoot me a pm if you can do an afternoon.
