Breakaway switch

Servicing my trailer today and when I checked the breakaway switch I found it has been unwired. It's a TAP system with no charger so it only has 2 wires (brown and white). How should it be wired?

Does it go from the positive from the truck (black) thru the battery on the trailer(brown) to the switch(white) and in to the trailer brakes (blue)?

Or from the trailer brakes (blue) into the battery (brown) out to the switch (white) and back to ground (white)?

Not sure exactly how yours is wired but the switch should essentially have one wire that goes from the positive side of your battery and the other wire goes to the hot wire to your electric brakes. If the pin gets pulled out by a disconnected trailer that puts full battery voltage to the trailer brakes to stop the trailer.

My trailer is now 9 years old.

Any suggestions on break-away batteries? I figure mine is due to be replaced.
