Break in and warranty letter from Polaris

I received this letter in the first week of October when I still at the time owned a '08 D8. I was not due to pickup my '09 D8, with 2010 update, that I bought in May until the middle of October. I posted that I had received this letter then. Guys were questioning the amount of oil recommended for the tank premix as excessive.:confused: Why the delay in people receiving this letter? I also received a letter after the update was done on my new '09 D8. Did anybody get that one? Interesting how and when Polaris sends customers info?:confused::beer;:beer;

I am assuming that the dealer processed your update kit when they completed the update on your sled. As soon as my update was complete I got a customer satisfaction survey asking about the dealer. Then last week I go the warranty letter posted above. I am sure both of these were sent because of the paperwork my dealer had to turn in with regards to the warranty service. People should get this letter when their warranty claim is complete by the dealer. Maybe one of the dealers on here can verify this.

All oil is not created equal and with the leaner burning engines the quality of oil is very important. Polaris reformulated the VES Gold to the Gold Plus this year increasing the "lubricity" of the oil...in other words it will take higher temperatures without failing. The Plus is also "thinner" and may burn cleaner for EPA reasons. Someone posted some test results on oils a few weeks ago. As I recall it was VES Gold, Redline, VES Plus-lowest to highest quality with some other oils rated well. Selveral popular oils did not do well. I did a search but couldn't find the post...any one else?

How do you know when the rings are seated?

I wouldn't get to uptight about the oil thing. It isn't likly to ruen you engine. If the rings don't seat have the deal put in a new set of rings and clean up the cylinders and you should be good. Done this before when polais recommended using systhitic oil to break in a motor in the past. never did get the rings to seat. Had the dealer redo it and away we went.

Compression test? I will be the first to admit my wrenching skills are not exactly at a professional level. (Although they have gotten significantly better since owning my dragon) Plus, my local dealer is probably worse than me at fixing things, which is scary. I have to take mine to a dealer 1.5hrs away and that isn't exactly convenient sometimes. Sometimes I close my eyes and fondly the remember last year when my sled ran great...for two whole rides.

Glad I only bought a quart of the gold then. I am going to run it till I'm done then go to the plus. If I burn down it's because my dealer told me not to bother pre-mixing. I already ran it with the regular gold so probably a little to late for break in.

I already broke in with gold in the tank, it wont make too much difference it is still additional lubrication, and it smells fruity. As far as gold vs gold plus don;t worry to much about it if you already bought gold, Plus just has different additives added.

Well I have two new 09 sleds, 700 and 600 rmk's dealer put gold in tank and oil tank....should I drain this then and go with blue...have not had a chance to run the sleds as we have no darn snow here yet! What are your thoughts....

You can run the Gold oil if you want to, will just take longer for the rings to seat. I usually go through 2 tanks before I consider my sled broken in, one tank on just a topend overhaul. I use the "old school" method, take it easy for a 150miles. 5k trouble free miles afterwards.

Sure as SH!T that addendum came with the 2010's. I've got 10 miles on with gold in the oil tank, should I switch to the blue now? Or is it too late?
