On my 03 chevy 1500hd my brake controler is comming on without a trailer plugged in. If you hit the brakes the light turns red for a split second then goes out, right blinker and the light turns off, left blinker and it blinks. What would be causing this, it did sit outside the other day when it snowed all day so could it be a moisture issue? This happened one other time and thats when i found out that the factory plug was broke somebody must have backed into it and broke all the plastic and even bent the metal tab it screws to. Put a new one on and never had a problem till now.

Sounds like your back feeding power. Check the harness and receptacle.

Now it quit doing it did it for two days and now today it quit. What would cause this just moisture maybe? What causes back feeding power?

Moisture, but you must have something cracked or bare.

I will have to crawl under there and trace everything down i guess, i did have a plug routed into the inside of my box last year maybe that has something to do with it.

water

all you have to have to activate the brake conrtroller is a circut
the blue wire and the white ground are connecting which make the controller think there is a trailer behind it so it acts accordingly by adding power to the blue wire and showing you the oragne/red light

my first truck had this problem. in the snow/rain it would light up the controller. i sealed up the truck side wire harness where the wires enter with liquid electrical tape, the put some sealant on the flap(with it up), let it dry
let it spring back into position and the sealant makes a good seal

just clear silicon
let it dry as bead ,and its still soft when dry so it will seal nicley

really anything to seal will work, like a stick on weather strip.
Just something to keep the moisture out

It takes very little power to light the light on the controler
you most likely wont see anything when you look
like said above look it over, if some-one installed a plugin in the box you could also have a problem there,
I like spraying the plugin
