bought a 9 sec. (supposedly) camaro today w/pics!

for whatever reason i decided it was a good idea to buy this 70 camaro drag car today. calle dthe guy and he says the car will run 9.40's.. so, i go to look at it.. i looked it over with a bud of mine, it all looked ok.. guy says, i guarantee it runs but, the starter is bad.. "i wouldnt fawk anyone" and turns the mortor with a wrench, all looks good.. so, my bud says "dude, this thing is worth the money".. so, i bust the guy back ($100 bills in hand always works!!).. anyway, i pick up a starter on the way home thinkning ill just slap it in in the morning and all will be good..
i stop at another buds house in the hood on my way home to show him, we take the hood off to take a peek at the 468 c.i. motor and i notice (why the he!! i didnt notice while i was looking att he car, i dont know) the bolts are missing from the right side valve cover.. i grab the valve cover and pull it off.. fawkin broken rockers!!! pissed me right off!!!

so, i get it home, pull the laft side valve cover off expecting to find the same thing.. nope!! like new..

so, i pull whats left of the rockers off the right side and find a broken valve.. then, i pull the intake and head off the left side expecting to find one he!! of a mess..

suprisingly, the tops of the pistons looked pretty good..

so, i guess ill go buy some roller rockers tomorrow and see what happens..

heres the pics by the way.. no, its not a real z28..

I hate to sound negative but I bet your cam is junk. Has the car been inspected? NHRA? With all due respect looking at what you bought scares the hell out of me. Any SFI sticker on the cage? I would love to see some et slips for that car with a 468 running in the low 9's. Again, not trying to sound like a dick just a little skeptical.

there is a ihra and an nhra inspection sticker on the roll cage.. scares the hell out of you why? i dont know anything about it so, explain to me what you mean by your statements..

How much???

im gonna let you guess... it is for sale by the way..

heres some details:
70 camaro (original v8 car). not a z28 or an rs (doesnt show the correct cowl tag codes)
468 c.i. (supposedly) broken rockers, may or may not run.. gimme a few days..
powerglide
trans brake
full roll cage
ford 9 inch
s&m racing coilover rear suspension
all billet brakes with cross drilled rotors.
weld wheels
2 racing seats
wheelie bars
chute
etc..

What's the details on the motor? Heads? Cam? Rotating assembly? Compression?

Hopefully you got it cheap.

there is some deals out there for sure right now... Just a observation though, WHY is it when ever someone builds a go fast Chevy they have to use Ford 9" to keep it moving down the road.... I guess if they want tuff they needa be "Ford Tough" :beer;;)

Himark, probably because the 12bolt chevy is heavier, there are thousands
or 9" Ford and the 3rd member can be changed out in no time. Dana 60's are heavy also. When I went to the Super Chevy show I seen a Mustang with a BBC in it, there is a reason for that too! ;) :beer;

I would agree with whomever said the cam is junk. If the pistons are good and it had a broke valve = junk top end. Probably didn't do the guides anygood. My guess is that is a 10.50/11:00car... maybe . With a ladder bar set-up
and a junk motor, my guess is you gave between $6500-$8500. I can tell you it won't run 9:40 on a single holley BP
unless it's a king and it's not.

For a mear 40g's I could set you right up with a high 8second 69 nova with a 4link Jerico 4spd, 9" wilwood and a 570cid 1100hp BBC. :) Ran a best of 8.92@153 mph at 750'

EDIT: There are probably pieces of that rocker floating around in the oil system. She would probably need a complete teardown and inspection. DON'T just slap some rockers on and run! The pushrods are probably bent, lifters junk, cam junk, guides junk, studs junk... Probably broke a timing chain, valve hit the piston... Lucky she didn't go boom-boom

She needs a somplete overhaul.

9.4 . What class designation. Brackets, Super Gas (9.90 index) or Super Comp (8.90 index). Does not really look like a super gas car or have the ability to run those numbers. Look at your chassis stickers and make sure they are up to date. NHRA has inspectors on their website for your division.

You can compare what you have to stuff on sale here. http://www.racingjunk.com/

gimme what you got.:D. i bought it to sell it, i think i bought it cheap enough. not sure though...

Typical car salesman.

;):D I sold cars for 6 years. It took me about 6 months to make any real money but it took 6 months for this old boy to give me the best peice of advise for anyone in sales:

"Boy, do you know why God gave you 2 ears and 1 mouth?" "No", I replied. "So you can LISTEN twice as much as you TALK".

No truer words ever spoken.
