Boondocker or Silber

Nice to see some passion back in the Turbo Pro-Ride section.

Hadn't even bothered checking in for weeks.

Wow, Skibreeze is right, too many people cheer leading their choices.

I have ridden both and decided to go with the Silber last year (Bully Dog but with the oil tank). I did this for a few reasons. One was price. I had the money for a turbo but it had to be under $5k (wife's rule, not mine). The BD was going to be a good $1k more and that didn't include the Bully Dog option. Another reason was that I met Cory Boston and his support was great. I bought from him and called him and bugged him during install and tuning.

The bad part is that I experienced the bog. Cory got me the new map once it was released and things were so much better. The sled flat rips right now. The biggest problem for me is that I can't keep my sled pinned all the time on a hill like I used to with my stock sled. I do wish there was a fuel management option to fine tune fuel settings. I could get in trouble here as I'm not patient or good with tuning, but the fine tuning would be nice. The Bully Dog is not a good option to have on the sled IMO. It's hard to read while riding and seems fragile and perhaps not very water proof. I'm going to add a boost gauge this year.

The Silber kit does install very clean. There were a couple items I didn't like at first (oil tank mount, throttle body mount and general instructions) but I never had an issue after I installed it. I wanted to install it so that I knew every piece in case I needed to do field work. I put on an air line wrong and cracked it so this idea came in handy one day. I did not want to cut up my sled to put the turbo on, and this kit worked well for that.

I'm not bashing Boondocker, I think they have a great product. They seem to be a little more of a company where the person to person interaction is not as close as Silbers. I've ridden them and they rip. The two that I rode had the hood cutup for intake and the exhaust was way too close to the QDS on the Pro. I talked to Chris Burandt last year and he was pushing Boondocker. I told him I don't get the same perks and attention as he does from BD and Vohk. I think he understood what I was saying.

Just be ready for the sled to be a tad more finicky than a stock sled and a ton more fun to ride. I got on some stock sleds last year and seriously thought they were clutched bad because they fell down on the top end in comparison. Make a choice that is good for you and be careful with the sponsored opinions. They are all awesome riders with good knowledge, but they have to push the product that is sponsoring them.
Could you elaborate on this a little? Are you saying this in a good way as in it wants to wheelie and come over backwards or a bad way as in your sled no longer likes being held wide open for an extended period?

Thats a good question!

I know with mine I can hold in pinned as long as I need to, But you tend to get going a bit faster with a turbo and things go wrong MUCH faster!.... AHahahaha... Dont ask me how I know!!! :flame:

Bottom line. If you are gonna pay to play, then pay someone to set it up right. Which ever kit you get, take it to some professionals with lots of experience to install it. Far and away most issues on turbos are because people installed themselves, missed some little step, messed with their programming and try to fix stuff that isnt broken when something else really is broken. Then they come online and whine about how their kit and turbo company sucks. Dont be that guy. Get it done right the first time.

IMO if you are worried about price you shouldn't be looking at turbos. Just my opinion. There isn't anything cheap about them. You need to be prepared to replace a 3k motor at anytime, say by by to warranty, and prepared for minimum $50 in sled fuel every ride. In short its going to cost you upwards of $5-10 a mile to ride a brand new sled on boost over the course of a 1000 mile season. You should be worried about which kit is the best value for the money, but not the price your going to be paying. You know your gonna pay too much and thats ok, just make sure you get the quality components in the system. (intakes, wastegates, guages, plumbing, controllers, wire quality, turbo (warranty) and so on...)

And if you want to have a full discussion about movies, companies, and sponsorships I can give you more info than you probably ever want to know. Having been involved with it for 10 years now I think I bring some street cred to the table. But thats a whole other thread.

That said I would do Boondocker 1st, MTNTEK 2nd, silber 3rd. I wouldnt buy from a canadian company with no support in the USA yet, nor if I was in canada would i buy a kit with no support in canada from the USA.

Phatty wins, and hit just about every logical point there is to hit.

but seriously, can we get back to the smack talk. Its not snowing yet and I need some heckling....

My silber has so much power i had to get shoulder surgery in the offseason just from hanging on. Might throw a boondocker on this year to avoid another surgery this coming summer.:crutch:

i do live in gp but never heard of the shop. i have ssen some sleds with the boost it kit though.

give boost it a call great guys to deal with, plus close to you if you have any probs.they are out testing almost every week in revy area too so kits are dialed.
there kits start at 6395.00$ can & go up from there, garret turbos & water to air on all kits, not sure if they are doing the low boost kit still as they wernt happy with the consistency of the kit.i rode there newest version they were testing last march & it rips.

That should sum up the Silber choice

I know you don't seriously think they all run like this. :face-icon-small-dis. You know that any kit can run bad if somebody doesn't know how to tune it or have sled, or install issues. I went thru way more pistons with my Boondocker kit in 1 sled than I ever have over the last few years with my Silber kits. The best part is both brands keep getting better and when Silber came out with the Bullydog, it made this kit an awesome one. My money will go to Silber for miles and miles of smiles.

You mean the Vohk Boondocker sleds ridden by Chris Burandt also need to be tuned......say it isn't so:face-icon-small-sho

Pay special attention to 2:10 and 3:10. Now am I ignorant like edavis and sledhead and proclaim this somehow represents all of all Vohk tuned Boondocker kits or do I think he was just getting it dialed in. Yep...just getting it dialed in and I'm sure it's spot on now :face-icon-small-coo
