Blue River BC closures

Added comments to the application to take a prime riding area away for more skiing, hope this does not go through!!!

closures

This is a big deal if we want to be able to keep riding in a great area!!! Let your riding buddies know about it and have them act on it too!!!

Hello

I would just like to let everyone know that the deadline for public comments is not Sept 25. The Commercial Rec Officer for the Ministry of Toursim Culture and the Arts will be taking public input for a while to come and hopefully the date on the internet page will change soon to reflect the correct timeline.

Any member of the public can apply for tenure and that is all Snowy Tours has done, is apply. The public has a right for adequate conslutation periods, so please keep your opinions flowing, but please keep all of your comments clean and educated for the best outcome.

...commented, this is Ka-raap! so they claim a snowmobile will scare off caribou.. yet the helicopers they use for heli-skiing is animal friendly!! Aarrgg!! *&$%#!!! but don't worry I left a professional comment rearding my view. and besides.. when sledders get there the caibou has already migrated through the area, what nutcase caribou would hang around in 10ft of snow.

also on a side note, a similar thing is happening at Chatter creek - did you guys hear? they want exclusive rights to more crown land, much more! and want it all off limmits to sledders! I remember reading about it in a paper or article someplace last year. the only way you will use the area is through them.

Forwarded my 2 cents

You know, Blue River isn't that far away from Valemount. :(
These Greenies probably come off as being non prejudiced, stereotypical or racsist. F ing HYPOCRITES!!!

Guys. I don't know what the details are for this application but here is some info that might help.

Tenure; any company using crown land to make a buck must apply for tenure so that they are allowed to use the claimed land.

Multiple companies may have tenure on the same peice of crwon land.

Tenured land does not restrict any public access whatsoever!

EXclusive tenure can restrict public access but is usually ony granted if significant assets are built on the property; ie. ski resort.

Caribou restrictions are set by the gov't. And it has nothing to do with scaring away the caribou!! ALMOST EVERY SLEDDER IS IGNORANT TO THIS ISSUE SO PAY ATTENTION; The reason why sledding is not allowed in caribou habitats is because they can actually travel in the powder quite well as their hooves spread apart like a snowshoe. Wolves cannot travel in the deep snow. But when we pack the snow down with our sleds, it allows the wolves an opportunity to get at the caribou and can drastically affect the caribou population.

Keep in mind, Mike Wigle has tenured almost every slope in the blue river area. By no means does that mean we can't sled these slopes!

But if the gov't has caribou restrictions, then these restrictions must be obeyed completely.

I have ridden the mentioned areas and 80% of the marked areas will be too high for any caribou exemptions. Most caribou areas will be any open/meadowed sub tree line areas.

My 2 cents.

I put in a comment for this as well. I do ride these areas a few times each winter and after last years closures for caribou reasons any such private areas is crap... Its not much different than the heli ski issues in that area.
