Blue Ribbon Coalition

This thread is a result of an extremely boring day at work, but I was just wondering who here on SW are members of the Blue Ribbon Coalition. If you're not a member of BRC, do you support another organization?

I can't tell you how important I think it is for all of us to come together and fight for our right to use public lands. We should all be supporting these groups/organizations that are trying to keep public lands open to us.

Besides supporting organizations like the BRC, what else can we do to fight for our right to use public lands? Obviously, we need to follow the rules, respect the enviroment and not be idiots, but I am curious what else we can do to prevent our riding areas from being closed? It would sure be a sad day if we weren't able to ride our sleds, motorcycles, or atv's on public land....Hopefully that never happens.

Been a member since 2001, Also a member of two local snowmobile clubs. Treasure State Alliiance, Citizens for balanced use, and SAWS.

we all need to join or we wont have places to ride

BRC member since I don't know when, it's been a long time. I think 01 if not earlier. Also MN USA member, as well as our local club member and groomer operator since I was 16. Club member with the family when I was 9.

I think everyone should at least be in their respective state programs and the BRC. It's the only good thing we have going for us. There is really no excuse to not be a member.

It will be interesting to see if anyone objects to being 1) a member, and 2) being a working member.

belong to brc, usa-all, two snowmobile clubs, two local area access advocacy organizations....contribute 3-4 hundred a year plus dues....also donate time for projects....if we don't do what we must, we won't have any decent places to ride, especially if the dems get the presidency

life time member Blue Ribbon
member of Utah snowmobile association
member of USA-ALL

Yes

Blue Ribbon and SAWS member here...have been since I learned about em. Very important to me, I figure if you love being out there..you oughta back the people that are keeping it open for you! :D

Yes I am a memeber. and others. Read my signature

We (snowmobilers) need to band togethere to fight for our RIGHTS.

Kind of sad this is all the posts we have received on this subject. Does it represent the state of affairs correctly? I think it does.

I don't think there's really any question why were losing so many areas so quickly....so easily. Snowmobilers don't want to put in the effort to keep riding areas. PEROID!
For the limited amount of people who are fighting back and the areas we've been able to keep it's actually pretty amazing.

Don't get me started - Oops, too late!!!

I don't think there's really any question why were losing so many areas so quickly....so easily. Snowmobilers don't want to put in the effort to keep riding areas. PEROID!

I couldn't have said it any better myself SnowSnob. Most snowmobilers either just don't get it, or just don't care. Period. Oh, and there is another group of snowmobilers that feel trying to save our riding area is stupid, as they plan to just ride the closed areas anyway.

I will admit that we currently are losing most of these battles, but I would like to think that with a heck of a lot more numbers in the fight and if snowmobilers were willing to throw in some coin, lots of coin in fact towards lawsuits like the greenies do, I actually think we could win some of these battles.

Although this same thread has been done several times in the past in the old forum, and this is not the best time of the year for getting lots of posts on a thread (I don't read much on hear anymore - not enough time), there are still numerous dumba$$ threads that get hundreds of posts.

Not much different than every single thread I do post regarding a proposed snowmobile closure goes off the front page in General and dies a quick death pages deep very quickly with very few posts. Take a look at the Land Use section. Never heard of it? Not surprised. It has so few people on this site post on it, let alone view it, that the Snowmobile Alliance of Western States (SAWS) rarely bothers to post our alerts there any longer. Besides, everyone can get our alerts free through email, so there should be no reason to post them here if everyone was a member.

It certainly isn't a time or money issue when it comes to not joining groups that are trying to keep your riding areas open, as you could join most of them for less than it costs to fill your sled, and some, like SAWS, don't cost you a penny. All we ask for is contact information, which requires an email address, so that we can send you emails about issues that negatively affect your riding areas. And we also want and expect our members to send us emails that may negatively affect their riding areas, so we can help spread the word to our members and get more comments submitted opposed to proposed closures.

Even with being FREE, SAWS, which has been around for almost 4 years, has about 2700 members throughout the United States with a few members also from Canada. That's it. I don't recall the latest figure for how many individual members BRC has, but it seems to me that it was 10,000 or less (don't qoute me on that figure though). Care to guess how many members The Wilderness Society (TWS) and the Sierra Club (SC) have? Over 300,000 for TWS and hundreds of thousands more for SC.

Rant over!! :(
