blown up apex

how much do you think you can get out of a blown up apex......... you get everything including boondockers turbo......its a 2007 ....... not sayin im selling it just wonder what I could get. any ideas??????

I dont know it's was only my fifth time out And I was only running 12 pounds with 50/50 mix and everything was set up to go ........ Its disappointing cuz I'm 18 and don't have alot of money to fix big problems like that..... I guess it could be a life lesson hahahaha

im not a fan of much things boondockers....

question is, is does it have a head shim? probably not if your running 50/50... and at 50/50 you should be safe anyways from detonation

so question is, is what went wrong? low oil level? bad oil pump?

from what i've heard and know, them things are pretty much bullet proof as long as they are taken care of...

however of course sometimes they can be a lemon... or maybe the guy sold it to you if he figured something aint right? (you said 5 rides so i assume from when purchased)

now you being 18 n all, and where i was 18 not so long ago lol,

i'd take it on as a project! rebuild the thing, whether you choose to part it out you'd pull the motor, so pull it... figure out what went wrong, and the $$$ of it all to fix in parts, use ebay, maybe can get a good priced motor off ebay that runs and throw it in? or on the classifieds? sell yours for cheap for parts,

besides, what did go wrong to make you so sure it "blew up"?

I had the same basic scenario about a year ago. The sled I bought had a motor that was hurt/junk/??? motor and after just a couple times out if went the shat. Heres my advise. Dont be scared. These things really arent that bad to work on. Dive in and figure out what went south and fix it. You will be supprised at just how simple they really are.

Secondly-

What does or doesnt it do? Turn over, run at all, locked up solid, hole in block, etc.

it has a head shim......... im pretty sure it was the bottom end.... the piston rod blew a hole through the whole bottom of the engine (about 4 inch wide hole) ......... all in all the sled blew up and no longer turns over ......... and im positive it was not over boosting because I had just checked how much boost I was running. and thanks for the advice I appreciate it a lot

i x2 the idea to dive in, i was scared of my yamaha Yz450F motor until i manned up lmao, im still young really, but that was back when i was 16, and man was it ever simple.... they honestly are a simple motor, you just think its overwhelming of a job, its not, just dont think, DO! ( but do your best to remember what where came from and ALWAYS bag stuff!) and service manuals are a must ha ha

12 pounds and a head shim, you dont need 50/50 mix, to my knowledge 12 pounds with head shim is safe at sea level, at elevation 6k ft or so you can get away with 16-17# of boost on 91 pump... or atleast thats what the mcxcanada dealer told me... but thats a mcxpress kit

so that being said, you on a 50/50 mix was more than safe and adequate, i run 12+# at 6000 ft on 91 pump atm on my apex, just got er 2 weekends ago, so put about 3 rides on it, needs a new track, got stock crappy one so it often bounces off the rev limiter... especially in powder

OUCH..... Chit happens when you party naked! I know it sucks but dive in (you can't hurt it now) and either do a fix or swap a used motor in. Life isn't over, its just gonna suck for a bit.

That sucks. When you have a hole in the Block its game over for that motor. You either broke a rod or rod bolt, so your crank is toast, your block is done and your piston from the rod that broke slapped against the head so now your head is junk. This isn't a motor your going to be able to dive into. Even under different circumstances the Apex and Nytro motors aren't motors that someone should just dive into imo.

I was going to say the apex motor is something I wouldn't dive into. Everything is expensive and if it falls apart the 2nd time out because you forgot the proper TQ sequence on something its even more expensive. Look for a used motor run the boost at a more conservative 8-9lbs and have fun with it. Save money if you want to run more then 10lbs.

they are pretty reliable engine from what ive seen, i ride with a group of guys, and 1 guy bought a new apex and put the 270 mcx on his, which is 12-14 pounds depending on elevation... and hes clocked over 12k km's now and it still runs and never misses a beat....

i know some others and no issues on their end too...

There is something weird with BD kits throwing #3 rod out of the block. I don't know if its the oil res tank design or what, but I've seen it a few times. The only motor failures I know of on apex/rx1 have all been BD kits.

it was randomly shutting off and just a clean shut down no bogging or anything and when that happened it would throw a code 30 which is low oil pressure but I thought that may of had something to do with the breather hose.....
