Blown Top End

Buddy of mine had a 13 assault go down, polaris denied warranty cause it had a SLP kit on it, but failure appeared to be lack of lubrication, they gave it back to him in a basket, he had the oil tank sitting in shop full of oil, nothing plugging hose and no oil coming out, took the cap off and it ran out the hose, my 14 cap does not vent unless its perfectly level, we both drilled it out and put the dirtbike fuel cap vents in, mine seems to be using more oil after. Definately something to be checking, the cap doesnt sit in there level so its not venting alot of the time anyway, the ball in there has to hit the plunger to un seat it to vent im sure bouncing around it does vent but how much 60 percent of the time? The oil pump is pulling a vacuum on the tank or cavitating the rest of the time.

Interesting thoughts there. Maybe if the sled was just idling the ball would never vent the cap. But with a sled bouncing down a trail or In the mountains boondocking that ball has to be bouncing around venting the cap. At least I'd assume so

You would be surprised how many people report a suction on the tank when they pull the cap to fill.

This would make sence. When I was priming my oil pump I had to remove the cap to get the dang oil to flow down the hose. I might consider a new vented cap.
