Blew the motor up today :(

Pre-Mix

Aaron, have you been running pre-mix in the tank or just straight fuel ??

How much oil does the motor use thru the injection pump per 6 gallons of fuel ???

This was actually the first and last ride of the season on this sled ..

What happened was the motor mount crossmember snapped in half on me, so I had the sled out of comission for most of the season and didn't actually get it back together until spring.

It had fresh gas in the tank with a little over a pint of dino oil for the whole 13 gallon tank.

Historically this sled would use about 5/8 of a quart for 6 or 7 gallons of gasoline, it appeared to be doing as such during the ride. I was checking the oil reservoir regularly.

What is all that debris/crud in the reed-tunnel?

Any pics of the mag side crank/rod?

That's what has me stumped. The reeds were perfectly intact, as was the new snorkel intake despite a little melt spot against the pipe. I had at first thought it HAD to have been that new snorkel intake but upon inspection it looked totally intact and clean.

I'll have to wait to get some more pics of the mag side rod, buddy had to go out of town for work this week.

Hope you find a solution. Looks as though you have Indy and M.H. stepping up to the plate to help you out, highly comendable fellows!! And to think people ***** about this site..

Get some pics of the mag side reeds (from the throttle body side)...Wonder what is in there??

The way the boost box is designed... more of the light dust/grit gets "whipped" out the mag side (outside of the sweep) in the boost box...

I'd really check out the filter/airbox/ headlight plenum...

Make sure the plenum is sealed to the hood, the light is sealed, the adjuster knob has tape over it (or a trick SPG knob aduster cover)...

Did you have any headlights blow on you? Any loose stuff inside of the headlight plenum?

Check the boost box for debris/dirt/grime/loose parts too.

Eric, I was not running the stock intake plenum, I was running a custom-built snorkel intake with filter cones and prefilters on them (basically a clone of the one Mule made for his sled).

The intake tract was perfectly clean until just behind the reeds. I'll see if I can get some more pics.

The sled is actually in Colorado right now, so it's probaby going to be at least a week before I can get down there to pick it up and bring it back to utah.
