Bike weight difference

I left my wooped 03 wr450 141" x 2.5" bike for a fuelie KTM with 121 2.5" track. Road the same last spring, was good and easier to lift than my wr. A 2 stroke bike has in most cases a lot lower center of gravity than the 4 strokes............so even at the same weight the agility factor and lifting weight will be lower with a 2 stroke. I have the 2 stroke with kit also...........problem is early season deep powder days my 4 strokes have out performed the 2 stroke in the DEEP SNOW.

If somebody made an adequate 2 stroke I would own one, the mods you have to make to a 300 or old 500's just doesn't suit me.

I just ordered a new hoist scale and will check here in a month the weights with old bikes vs new bike and two strokes. At 67 I don't pick them up off flat ground. I have some great younger friends I ride with, they have always eventually come back to help.

just FYI. Hung a brand new XC 300 2017 from shops digital scale 218 lb fuel tank empty ,

I don't want to spend the money for a 2017 KTM450, so think I will start looking for a 13 or 14. Which model should I be looking for? I do have good friends that come back and help me out when needed, but being the only TS rider in a group of mountain sleds is harder.

Most recommend the ktm 450 sxf or xcf. You could also get a husky FC 450. Pretty much same bike as the ktm, just different colors.

I have my ktm500 on my tsmh 120 now and my ktm450sx on my yeti 137. It is a huge differance on everything. The 450 is like my 300 was. I have a larger tank on the 500 too. it gets old putin fuel in so much but the feel is way better and I come from a trail riding backround and am older. also the rss shock lowers your seat hieght and is pretty cool and cush although your airbox has to be cut.

How much difference does 20-25 lbs in bike weight make? I find it very hard to lift my 2004 WR450 TS LT when it falls over in snow. I am 61 years old, 165lbs, shattered my right scapula last year so not in the best shape strength wise!.

If you have a snobungee then it's easy, attach the hook to the bark buster on the bar, put both feet on the ski and just gently fall backwards, be carefull the bike doesn't come over on you, as I said gently!

I noticed a substantial difference in how easy it is to right the bike when I went from my KTM 450/520 to my CR500. I weighed both bikes with the wheels on and the KTM was exactly 30 lbs heavier than the CR. I run ultra heavy duty tubes in the KTM and it has e start. I wonder what the actual weight difference is once you strip off the wheels, swing arm, shock etc. and get the bike into snowbike trim. I'm guessing not as much as the 30 lbs. I rode my buddies Berg 570 last season and that was the heaviest pig I've ever been on, its basically a two man job to right it or one man, one blown nut and a quick puke in the bush once you are done.

Weight matters IMO as does where the weight is located.

Drag one end around so the track is downhill. On the flats, remove the snow under the track so you aren't lifting the bike up on to the high side of the track. With e-start I suppose you could try the snowmobile tactic of rotating the track to dig.
