big tank-does stock fuel gauge work

I'm still futzing witht he stupid tank. It is better now but not perfect as the seat still won't line up perfectly with the rear bolt holes. I moved the wiring loom up underneath the steering post as there is a hook already in place to hang it from. I also discovered that my fan bracket was hitting on the tank. I rolled and cartwheeled my sled back in January in a high speed wreck and it pushed my radiator down. I eyeballed it and bent the brackets back straight and the fan bracket is no longer touching the tank but it certianly does not want to snug into place.

Where are your tank bolts located in relation to the slots in the tank? Mine are almost in the middle, just a touch forward towards the tank. I'm under the impression the bolts should be at the back of the slots towards the rear of the sled?

I figured you must have had some sort of hit to the front end or something...my bolts are at teh complete back end of those slots...if they are not at the back the seat wont just slip right on, the other thing to check is to see if the foam on the front plastic is hanging it up...

might be worth looking for frame brace issues from your tumble...but the tank on a non tweaked sled, fits like a glove...you have seen my install, pretty nice for aftermarket larger tank...

if you want PM me, and I will shoot you more pics of my install or we can chat live if you wnat...

That's interesting. At present, I don't think there is any way for my tank studs to hit the back of the slots. Earlier this morning I talked to one of the guys I race with and he said his tank studs were in the middle as well. He said he had to bend his seat brackets slightly forward for the holes to line up. I do have the small piece of foam on the tank cover panel, I'll remove it and see if it helps.

I've not braced anything on the front end because I wanted to see if Yamaha was going to come out with stronger components. So far, aside from the '09 spindles that are machined rather than cast, I've not seen any '09 components that have been verified to be strengthened on the front end.

To my knowledge, my buddy's sled has not been wrecked but it is raced/ridden very hard, harder than mine for sure. It would be interesting if it is an issue with sleds or if the tanks are not all exactly the same? Both his and mine are clear tanks.

Yeah, check these two lines and ensure they are not tweaked behind the tank, or it wont go in well...once they are inline, the tank will snuggle right into spot and you will have no issues...

Used your pic to show it...Also, looks like you did not put the cap gasket back on the neck of the tank?

Thanks for the descriptions on the photo. My work computer wouldn't let me view it.

the power of the internet strikes again, I love this tool for learning from people and getting information...is one of the reasons I liked the Rev and dootalk, and is now why I like the Yammy section...lots of good riders and people willing to help out...ty4stroke is ok, but pretty slow...nto a lot of eyeballs...

maybe we can change taht with the mod shop :)

your tank doesn't look forward????????? It's nowhere as easy as u say, those lines aren't even an issue

Well, I cant speak for others, but for me, these wires were an issue...and for me this is not further forward...I had my trail tank (was a black one) pushed all the way forward...the one in the pic is back from the bolts...
