How close can you get to West yellow from Bozeman on a Sled?

If you can get to Big Sky I am guessing all the way. You will need a sled behind to carry gas. I know there is a trail out the backside of Carrot Basin that will take you there.

You are suppose to be able to start out in Little Bear at the start of the canyon and ride the trails all the way to West. Never done it myself but it would be an adventure for sure. A GPS and a map may be necessary to navigate the different trails.

You should be able to start on the Big Sky trail near hylite and ride all the way.

Big Sky Trail starts at Little Bear and ends in West Yellowstone.

I personally have been from Moose Creek to the 320 Ranch (which is across the road from Taylors Fork). The trail is kind of tough. It goes through some thick timber and there is some tricky navigating involved. When I did it, we got lost of Portal and ended up following the trail. We happened to run into a group who knew the way and we followed them. Luckily we got out right before dark and called some buddies to get us.

On the bright side not many have done it and you do get to see some interesting terrain. It is definitely an adventure.

However I have never been from Little Bear to Moose Creek but thats just logging roads, so that should be a lot easier then Portal to the 320.

Also, I have been from Taylors Fork up and over into Cabin Creek many times. This is pretty easy and has the best off trail riding. I would definitely recommend that to anyone.

Yeah, the middle section is the most interesting...once you get to say the porcupine area, it gets pretty tame as well...then dropping into the 320, it is fun, taylors to cabin is great, then there are several paths to take either Johnson lake, or Red Canyon, or back out Cabin...some great back country riding for sure!!!

Jesus I hate to think about this but how much gas should we tow????There would be 4 sledders. I still haven't figured out where the best place is to start I am getting some mixed answers on that..After or before hyalite area?

You start at Little Bear, you can stash gas by the highway at Squaw Creek (Stormcastle now), Swan Creek, Moose Creek, and at Portal creek. From there on the other members can help. Some of this is groomed, some isn't. The hardest part for me has been Swan to Moose Creek, route finding can be difficult if it is not groomed, logging roads on the side of a mountain tend to drift full and present some exposed long 45 degree side-hilling with little hope of recovery if you lose it. This would be long, ride depending on trail conditions, sometimes it's all I can do to get from Little Bear to Moose Creek in a day, sometimes it takes 4 hrs.
