Took a drive yesterday. No snow around Burgess Junction, very little at Granit Pass. So far looks like Bald Mountain is about the only area getting much for snow. Really warm tonight, lots of wind. Hope it cools off and snows soon.

This is the weirdest weather!! It rained for most of the night but then this morning it was snowing - and not just a little bit. We're up to about a foot so far. If this keeps up, it won't be long before we're sledding in and out, and not driving anymore! Saw the first snowmobile tracks here yesterday, and I took the sled out for a little trip myself. We're getting there! :)

Whats the best way to get to Ranger Creek by sled, where do you park the pick up, how about if a person stays at Bear and just wants to stop by? Thanks

From Bear Lodge, we're about 16 miles west/south on Highway 14, just past the ski-hill. When you get to FS Road 17, there's a parking lot where you can unload your sleds and we'll be waiting for you there with our cargo sled, that is, if you need any help. It's a 4 mile ride to the lodge. Sledding from Bear Lodge, take P-trail past the ski-hill and when you get to the bottom at the ranger station, make a left, we're one mile up. It's 17 miles by sled. It's a great stop if you're staying at Bear but want to sled further south. We have a gas station to fuel your sled and a bar and great food to fuel yourself.

Hopes this helps, but feel free to call or email for more info!

anybody know how thw snow is around bald mtn? i need to get a break in ride in on my sled and was thinking this week sounding like a good idea. or is there any better places to go in the horns? if not i may head for the black hills they got some decent snow last week.

looks good

snotel says there is 30 inches or so at baldy I tried to drive up this morning and couldnt get through the drifts at the observation point. I drive a lifted superduty with 37 inch tires I would say that some of the drifts were and easy 6 foot. Had to break through some four footers around steamboat. It was a fun drive today I guess I beat the plows to 14a. Hoping to do some riding this weekend.

Hey hows about an updated pic of today. your fire does look nice though.:)

Man, I was sooooo cold this morning, that the fire just seemed right! We didn't have any snow overnight, but so much wind, it was howling around the lodge and I just couldn't keep it warm enough (the lodge was built in 1928, so there's bound to be a few holes here and there). With the wind chill it must have been way below zero. Today it has been snowing on and off, but hardly any accumulation, it's just spitting a bit. That's why I chose the fire place over the snow picture, as nothing has changed since yesterday. I have never posted a picture here on Snowest, so let me try to figure out how that works :light: and I'll see what I can do!
Corine.

thanks

hey you guys are great cant wait to get up there. I would rather spend my money at your place than the other lodges thanks for the updates.

one of the big thing that you will have to watch no matter what sled you have is not breaking an a arm or hurting anything. If the snow is soft enough you can sink and hit a rock pretty hard we have had that problem so you might want to carefull and look out. All it takes is speed and a hidden rock and you want have a sled anymore. the ranger station and by the fortunautious have a bunch i bet three plus feet so that should be good for ya some hills but be carefull.

It was snowing in Dayton last night. High winds. Still a bit windy today. At least it is starting to look like winter. Going to have to watch for rocks and stumps, but I have a 30 ton shop press now, so at least I can bend some of my own stuff back when possible!

It only felt like 15 tons when we unloaded it.

Always watch for the rocks in the Horns. It helps when you can see some of the play areas in the summer. Scope those meadows out and then carve em up!

OK Corine, yer on the hotseat... I'll put in yer webcam pic every time I see it's updated - keep it regular! :D:D:D

Awesome, thanks MotoPsych-o!!!! This one was last night..... Doc ran into a 'little' trouble on his way home.... Keep checking the website at www.rangercreekranch.net, there will probably be a new pic on the snow cam today!
