Best sled built for the mountain so far?

as i remember w/b used to be one of the biggest cat supporters on the old forum, next to owen who owns this thread, what are you on there slick and whats your choice on the topic? for me its the 06 x 151. wish i would have never sold it

Well I'd vote for the 06 Rev, the longer the track the better. Now since then, we ride with a ton of Rev's 07's and 08's, and the 08's I'm undecided yet, the 07's you couldn't give me one. For all the guys yipping about the 07, nows your chance, they are for sale everywhere and really cheap. That was probably the least reliable sled I've seen since the separating cranks on the Poo 650's. I never had an XRS, but man we pulled one home almost every trip. I believe the M7's are a great mountain sled but we have to ride about 30 kms of trail to access hills, and they don't shine there.
I made the mistake of trying a Boosted sled 2 years ago, and now man I'm hooked bad. I get on an 800 and feel like I should pedal to help it out. I read about how you can't ride that $hit in the trees, but theres a bunch I ride with and they go everywhere the group goes with a little more effort, but well worth it for the rush. Now I'm not comparing boosted to stock, so save all the "yeah but you had to spend an extra million dollar crap " cause it was worth every cent.
Never had one but have always been pretty impressed with the stock M1000 also.
Love the 4 strokes, they just make so much sense, but too heavy stock,.......but they're coming !!!!

What do you mean Yamaha not in the running, the old mountain max tripples were awesome and the new stuff is sweet for handling for boondocking. Your wrong about the Yammis.

I think the edge was a great platform and the motors seem to hold up. With the right set-up, great boondocker and not afraid to make a pull of the steep either. Now, I believe that the new Phazer boosted is going to become a common place. Fantastic chassis, light, and with boost powerful don't forgeting the motor in bullet proof. Will be the best boondocker on the mountain and be able to climb with any 800. Plus, you can buy and boost one for the possible cheaper than a new 8. I bounce back and forth on sleds all the time. Don't think there is a true favorite here, just rider preference.

After owning all the sleds mentioned...RMK, M's,Apex,Rev. My vote is clearly with the '07 Rev. This is BY FAR the most capable, consistent, best running and reliable sled I have ever owned.....once I got rid of the junk stock track and put on a Camo.
I ride with XP's and I'm betting they will be the new king but they just need a little more time to prove themselves. The clutching problems made into a big deal on this site are easily fixable.
The M's were great in the deep, but the ride, ergos and clutching are all marginal, as is power.
Older RMK's....well, just feel like a dinosaur compared to newer chassis. Newer RMK's.....havn't run across any (yet) that are competitive with the Doo's.
Apex....boat anchor.

I'd ride my stock 07' Addrenaline (with clutch fixed) over my piped & ported m7 all day any day...despite the bad rep....that Rev rips and is such a blast to ride. Dragon feels good too but don't have enough seat time on it.

Rt

Edge RMK's were the best in their day bar none, then the Rev and M7 came along. Those are the big 3 that changed the game in recent years IMO. I think they're all pretty damn good when they're working right these days. If I had to pick one, I'd say the M7 was the most no-frills machine dedicated to mountain riding that worked great stock. And if you don't believe that, just try riding an M7 on the trail LOL

I picked up an 07 rev and I sure am enjoying it....despite all the internet BS, it really is an awesome machine and a comfortable platform.

Definetly wouldn't trade for an M-sled or an older Rev, but I'd really like to try an 800 Dragon to see how that feels. I have a little more faith in Polaris clutches and motors than Doo, but none of them are Honda-reliable anyways LOL.

When the 4-strokes get more in-line with stock power-to-weight, I'll gladly jump ship.

The best sled is the first powder hownd that was available out of the box, Now that would be the 1982 Yamha Phazer, thats what started it all...

what about the 98 summit x 670? tough as nails and run forever. I have never heard anybody talk trash about one of these no matter what they ride.

True that they also were the first STOCK sled to make it to the top of the Jackson hole hillclimbs, I believe in 93.

something new

Why don't you all try a snowhawk. These are the most awsome snow machines on the market. After first ride I didn't want to ride a two ski again! New to the game and already kick a$$. :D:D

'97 700 RMK! Obviously the new stuff is much better now but I remember this sled was significantly better than the competition that year and was a sleeper from Poo. I had a great time highmarking my friend's EXT's, ZRT's, XLT's, Mt. Max's, Summits, etc.

I have ridden 5 times this year with a d8, the first ride it did well but not the best out there...... but now with a little clutch tuning and a SLP single no new sleds have been able to highmark it. It has the awesome IQ raw chassis. IMHO very hard to beat.

There's a lot of knowledge here, but..........

Two tings wrog with the responses.

#1....Some asume their current sled is the best [at least when they get the clutching and other issues resolved. Sorry that will remain to be seen.

#2....Some are responding to the best sled of its year. There again, that's no help on this topic. A 670 ZX Summit will not hang with some newer stuff. Neither will a Phazer from days of old, but yes, they were good in their day.

It seems like the Rev Summit might edge out the M-7 here. I would guess if they had a better reliability report the XP would be the best so far. Too bad for them.

No I don't ride a M-7. Well sometimes if my daughter will let me. I do like it for boondocking. I ride a Mod. King. It climbs fast, but I don't think it qualifies as the best mountain sled. Just a great climber.

If your talking out of the box, no mods, then I don't think any are holding a candle to AC. The king was king in 05 and to this day very respectable on the hill. The 08 (not 07) M8 snopro flat out rips right off the showroom floor.
Doo has over the past few years had the support and early season hype to take #1, however all I ever read about is failed this or worn that. People don't ride doo around here so I have yet to see the new xp in the mountains. I see the Raw 700 and they run good, but so does an M7 so reverse is the decider there. Raw 800??? My buddy has one, but has yet to sit even sit on it. We can all make them run with mods, but this topic seemed to start out as a box stock thread.

Owen, what are you looking for? Maybe you should tell us which sled is best.

True response

The best sled is the one that YOU , yourself ride, and it al really deoends on the type of ridinfg you do.

1 In the Mountains a long one is best
2 In the flatlands a short one is best
3in the trees a semi long one is best
4 all in all , all the brands suck mainly because the internet has made all the problems that we never used to hear about more knowledgable.

Just a pole of what you guys think is the best mountain sled so far

I'm not trying to lead anyone. I see some good responses, and my oppinion is not what seems to be the one with the most votes. That being the 800 Rev. Summit. I know that it's a good one.

Owen

mine is. but that's because I like it. it's comfortable for me,boondocks well, will climb with any sled but a turbo yami, only been towed in once in over 9000 miles and is always the tow sled in our group. so it is whatever anyone likes to ride. if I didn't have mine I probably would have a king with an 1150 cpc in it:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;
