Best shocks

Been juggling the same question. I just ordered Fox for all 4 on my new 2017 AXYS. Gone with Fox on the last 2 sleds and have been happy with the performance. Was going to try Exit on the rear and Fox up front but stayed with what I know.

I don't think there is a bad aftermarket shock these days, just comes down to what you as a rider are looking for. My preference was the floats, and if anyone says "this brand is the best" probably hasn't used the others

I am not a fan of float shocks. I think it can be hard to get them dialed in because as the shock heats up it changes the air pressure, also I hate checking air pressure all the time to see if it has changed. Other part I hate is if you have a seal fail you are going to have a long ride back to the truck.

That being said don't think you can go wrong with Exit or Raptor shocks. I have been running Exit's for years and love them.

Also a shock is only as good as the person that did the valving. One good reason to talk with the people building you shocks about your weight and what kind of riding you want the sled to handle best at. One more reason I like Exit or Raptor, you get to talk to the guys setting up your shocks and you know they are out riding testing different setup.

I love my raptors. I have not ridden anything else on an axys, but I agree I think they're hands down better than the floats on my pro. You won't be disappointed with a raptors, and I've heard a lot of good about exits as well

I've ridden a sled with Raptors but didn't get a full experience. I've had Float Evol R's and Exit X1's and between those, I would take the X1's any day. I know the Float's have evolved (no pun intended) so I can't say how the current shock is. The Exit's are butta! And they can really be dialed in with spring options and how the stacks are setup.

As others have said, Fox, Exit and Raptor are great options. I have no experience with Elka and some of the others.

Would take exit or raptor over any brand... At that point it comes down to money and your riding style/ personal preferences. Obviously raptor is more money. That being said its a league of its own. I run exits on turboed axys and they are awesome. PM or call
509-881-5136 if you're interested in either, riding partner has the hook up and huge sales now w Black Friday and cyber monday. He always beats any one on price

I have Exit x1, Raptors, and Elka's
In my opinion the Elkas are a little bit better then the Exit and Raptors.
Now are they $450 a pair better? Maybe maybe not but Elkas are going on the front my 17

I just put rear Burandt Evols on my axys... Now you guys have me wishing I bought raptors. Has anyone ridden the different shocks back to back on the same sled? If these fox shocks are actually that bad, I'll sell them while they are still brand new and buy something else.

In my cat proclimb I had fox send me the Burandt piston and valving for my weight to replace in my float in the rear skid. Was it better? Yes, but was it as good as a well set up coil over. No not even close.

I hated my floats. always trying to fine tune air pressure, then the temp drops 30* and you loose pressure. Try and add air pressure on the mtn... flip the sled on its side, clean snow off shock, remove cap from air fitting (dont loose it) and if your trying to hook the pump up with gloves on you loose 1/2 the pressure by the time you get it attached correctly. Then 150 pumps later your back riding. no thanks. Stick with a coil over. Eric

I was one click away from the Evol R QS3's...and I think I would have liked them. I think they've come a very long ways in the last couple years and have a significant more tuning that can be done to best fit your riding style and needs. In the end, settled on Exits, I've always preferred a coil over and to me, they're bullet proof and don't require any adjustments after the first couple rides.

I'm curious why some feel the Raptors are better than the Exit's. I don't know myself but I do know that the snowmobile world is all about what you have or who is providing you the goods. If there is a legit reason the Raptors are better, I'd like to know.

Coilovers, have kept us ALL riding another day, and in most cases SEASONS, on blown shocks.

Will never go for air only shocks!
