What would be the best way to go for reeds with a carls 860? I have heard that the V force are not the way to go so want to stay away from them. I have read good things about carbon tech reeds in the stock cages? Also what about boyesen rage cage reeds? I just want a set of reeds that dont get eaten buy my sled.

the v-force are a nice gain when you put them in but the lack of support and the inevitable chipping overshadows the performance gain. the carbon tech reeds seem to work well with the stock cages and don't chip or flake. for me, i think any performance loss going with carbon tech vs. v-force is insignificant and far overshadowed by the reliability. i have no experience with boysen.

Leave in the stock ones. For whatever reason the aftermarket guys can't get them to live. And if they do live, they aren't any better than stock.

I had Carl's put the Carbon Tech Reeds in mine when it was Ported 1000 miles ago. Since then I have had the Cylinder Skirt crack and decided to go with Carl's 860 Kit. When they were putting it in they said the Carbon Tech Reeds were starting to show wear(1000 miles) and would probably have to replace after another season of riding. My brother had 300 miles on his Carbon Tech Reed's and they were bad also. It sounds like they will warranty them and the new ones are a better reed but my brother put back in Boysen. I have in the past had realy good luck with Boysen and had it to do over again I would of started with the Boysen Reeds or left the stock ones in, just my opinion.

We have had good luck with the Carbon Tech petals on the stock cages. I think part of the problem is these sleds aren't set up to use enough oil. Each time I see reeds chipped up on CFI's, I find the oil usage is low/lean 50.1 and up. Turning up the oiler has shown much better reed life.

Good luck on getting any reed to last in this motor. It needs some fuel oil mixture sprayed on them to get any decent life. Run the stockers till they're shot then go with whatevers cheapest. I don't think Polaris sells the petals w/o the cage. I had stockers and Carbon Techs on my Carl's built 800 and couldn't tell the difference.

Looking at all you've done to your sled, I'd put the $250 towards a Camo X or Powerclaw. That 860 will rip with or without aftermarket reeds. My. 02 cents

My stock reeds were chipped at 1000 miles, sled uses tons of oil.. sled has about 1500 miles now, reeds are still chipped... sled still runs good. changing to boysen when I install fix kit

Well I decided to go with the boyesen rage cage reeds and the difference that I can see is that the boyesen reeds are one big reed. The V force reeds have 16 separate reed petals and the boyesen reeds only have 2 petals one on each side dont know if that is good or bad but I am going to try them.

Let us know how they perform. Im going boyseen with the fix kit also. The rage cage has to hold up better than the stock boots and I've always had good results with boyseen.
