best gas in western canada?

Most husky has it in it, and more and more the pumps are labeling it no matter what company. Chevron 94 doesn't have it either does most esso but i think that can change depending on where you live, so just check the pumps and double check inside its not good for our sled engines or any 2 stroke for that matter, JMO.

what is one to believe?
some say shell 91 is eth free. and as far as chevron 94 goes it says right on the pump "contains no ethanol"
say chevrons lying to us?

Here is a copy of the E Mail reply I got back from Shell Customer Service:

Thank you for writing to Shell.

In Canada there is NO Ethanol in V-Power and no plans for its use.

In BC our Regular Grade (Bronze) may contain up to 10% Ethanol but V-Power contains no ethanol so at sites that sell mid grade (Silver) the mid grade will also contain some Ethanol.

If the site has ethanol there will be the appropriate labels (which state that Bronze may contain up to 10%, Silver up to 5% & V-Power none).

Kind regards,

Jose Meilo

i agree, ive been told gas stations in canada have to have an average of 5% ethanol. so look at it like this.
87 octane-up to 10%
89 octane-up to 5%
91 octane- No ethanol.
15% spread over 3 octanes (15 divided by 3 equals 5%)
so the required "average" of 5% ethanol is met .

you have all done some great research on this!! That is great...
Learned alot reading all of this.
So I am going with Shell 91 or Chev 94 they both seem safe to use.
I have been looking for ethanol labels lately and haven't seen any on those 2 pumps

around here (pg) all the other companies get fuel from esso and mix thier own recipies of additives, chevron 94 is ethanol blended.....esso is the cleanest ...

where are you getting this info from? You realize we have a husky bulk plant in p.g. that delivers fuel to all the mohawk/husky stations in town as well as to all the mom/pop stations such as racetrack gas etc. The way I always understood it was if you don't want husky fuel, buy from Esso as they bring their own fuel in.
So are you saying if I go to a husky station I am buying esso gas with some additives in it?

as I understand it esso brings it all in ,everyone adds their own additives to make their own, husky and mohawk mix in ethanol..jim at jims engines was the source....I believe race track gas has a marked off road only non ethanol 91 octane ,I run that if esso is not convenient..and yes I believe husky is esso with additives,as well as chevron,mohawk,shell...that 94 is the absolute worst in my understanding ,91 with additives ..lot of misinformation in this thread..again good luck out there guys, and think about where the info comes from..I think most people its not a big deal but I need 100 octane..and have seen what ethanol did to my wallet..........

So you're going to believe that husky sells esso gas because Jim at Jim's engines says it's true? Let me guess, that was right before he charged you $800 for a barrel of 112?
Jim told me once he'd never heard of S.P.I. pistons before, and they must be junk compared to the wisecos he sells. Guess what kind of pistons are on his shelf now?

I hear ya everything with a grain of salt, also know someone that did fuel deliveries..run what you like, even a broken clock is right twice a day..and I do know jim does good work and stands by it wheather he likes spi or not..
