i'm just wondering what you guys have that works best for you. i've looked at the ruger lcp, but the guns are hard to find. Not to mention the ammo. I'm looking at a 9mm or 40s&w. any recommendations?

a pocket 38 revolver! I have a buddy that has one! fit's in his front pocket and easily accessible.
x2 on the revolver, they don't eject spent casings all over the crime scene
and if you use wadcutters they can't get markings off the lead in the body

Dang, I like that .45 springfield. Its a bit out of my price range though. I saw a taurus 24/7 that I liked on saturday, are they a good gun for the price?

I have one like that Taurus just not Titanium, love it. I have heard a lot of people that love the Glock but its a either love or hate I think. I'm looking at getting a Ruger SR9, they are wicked reliable after the updates are done (some recall issues but all worked out now) and the price isnt too bad.
Like said above make sure your good with it. It doesnt matter what gun you havve if you don't know how or arent comfortable using it. I would find a range that rents a big selection of different ones and shoot shoot shoot till you find "the one" you'll know when you find it. It will be the best fit for your hand and feel like its meant to be there.

I carry a Ruger LCP with a Crimson Trace attached and love it ... so much less bulk than my S&W Model 340 J-Frame and less than 1/2 the price with the laser included.
No one has mentioned the JUDGE yet. A .410/.44 (I believe) The promo videos for that are amazing. Absolutely destroyed the target from 10 yards with the .410, then the guy turned and put down a couple more at 20 yards with the .44 I want one of those pretty bad!

Slingshot.....no one EVER expects you to pull a wrist rocket with a ball bearing loaded. Sure its slow.....but cmon......id rather be shot than hit with a damned ball bearing going 300fps 
If you pulled a sling shot on me id be looking for the nearest exit.....

I have wanted to get one of these....but when I went in to Sportsmans they had been recalled....are all the kinks worked out now?
....and to answer the question of the thread....I like my compact Springfield XD .40 and I also have a hammerless .38 Taurus....good little gun. But like mention this Ruger LCP really intrigues me if all the kinks are worked out. You can't go wrong with a Glock too.

I've always had a soft spot for the feel of a 1911 frame, so for me a Springfield Armory EMP, or my probable first choice of a Para Ordnance Warthog. I like the 1911, personal choice, buddy has a sub-compact Glock .45, lot of round to hold with a frame that's so small I can only get two fingers around the grip!!!!
