Best Boondockin Turbo

Looks good from what I can see Dave has built a good kit of his own and not a cheap nock off props to you and your biz allot of work and time is spent to come up a good kit. Now will be interesting to see if the motors can hold up to the abuse like the Cats and Poo's do.

I feel the TRA primary is a better turbo clutch in some cases due to the fact that we can tune and control the tuneing components all separately. When you start making big boost, it has a hard time pinching the belt enough at full shift. This is because we can't physiclly load enough weight in the clutch. For the average consumer they will have no issue with that. New arms are available to go big boost and still keep the TRA.

The carb vs efi can be debated for years until they no longer make carbs. The carbs with a turbo, when set up properly, have very little problems with consistancy. I have a turboed efi Cat and I feel the carbs respond as good and maybe slightly better when turboed. It's almost like efi is too smart. Carbs are dumb enough to deliver an amount of fuel based on the air flowing through the carbs. I have tested with huge swings in base jetting, elevation and temp and I was impressed myself. I wouldn't release the kit to the puiblic if there was constant tweeking.

Two problems I see with a turbo xp, carbs and TRA.
If they can get the DPM to still work with a turbo then it shouldn't be AS finiky but I still think the EFI's would be more friendly.
I also thought that the TRA wasn't holding up to boost very well which is ONE of the reasons Doo isn't coming out with the xr1200.
Personally I miss the built proof P-85.

Like 1062 miles from my place to Rapid City:eek:! A bit of a drive but I drove over 750 the other day towing a tractor...helping my buddy put in boat lifts...1000 with no trailer and no fricken boat lifts + sleds sounds wayyy better!!

Would have been interesting to see the 2 sleds line up..pretty hard to tell if one got on the power a little sooner which will get you way quicker up the hill.jmo

I've got a turbo 900 cat with carbs.....best running sled I've had to date, ride from 4500' to 8500' and all I had to do is adjust the power jets. All kinds of weater.

Good luck on your kit! Sounds nice!

If you have no lag you have no turbo, there is no such thing as no lag especially on a 2-stroke turbo. If it is set up properly it can feel like the lag is not there but if you watch the boost gauge you will see the boost is not there when you crack it open off of idle.

I have built a few turbo systems on 4 strokes the can make boost with no load on the motor and at low rpm, you can not do this with a 2-smoker because you can not undersize the turbo on them

As buddy stated above the more boost you run the fatter your clutch weights have to be and the less low end responce you will end up with.

The trick is fuel managment, a good clutch setup and keeping it under 12 pounds of boost, the lag will still be there but it won't seem like it is, just don't say there is zero lag because it is not going to happen on a 2-smoker.
