Best A-arms?

I bent up one of the lower A-arms on my pro - should I get a stock replacement, or sell off my good arms and buy a set of aftermarket arms??

Any recommendations on aftermarket?

I've had good luck with Holz arms. Lighter and stronger for sure. Only potential drawback IMO is they are about 1" wider total in width over stock.

Do the Alternative Impact chromoly use the stock spindle? Also what's the width of a set of AI's? Haven't had any experience with those.

Stock spindles, the width is same as stock. It does have hiem joints on the bottom arm so you can make the stance a little bit narrower are wider than stock.

To be honest I saw the alternative impact website, and i'm a little scared - the titanium spindles have some awful looking welds, and I don't know how I feel about the baby blue cro-moly spindles.....makes it hard to even consider buying these....

If the owner of AI is listening, please take some better pictures!

Also, the language about the swaybar mount is confusing...is it available or not for a '12?

I was a little worrid also, but ordered a set and I've been happy. I set mine so I"m 1/2" narrow than stock. The sway bar has a bolt welded to the arm, so I can't use my quick disconnect :(, but mabe better cause now I ony have to pull a nut to disconnect. I didn't weigh, but difinetly lighter.

Am i missing something? Where on the site are there spindles? I only see A-Arms and they look beautiful! I have only heard good things about Dan and his products!

Titanium or cromo?

Is there an advantage to the titanium?
They weigh the same as cromo but cost twice as much.
Are they stronger? How much stronger?

Check out Timbersled's Barkbuster IFS kit. You have a choice of 40" or 38", red or black, and I believe you can use your stock shocks or upgrade. The best thing is the Barkbuster kits are on sale till May.

I have the narrow chromoly kit on my XP and a narrow Ti kit on my other buddy's XP. On top of that we have another narrow kit on my buddy's Rev. The quality on the product is really good. Every time I have called Dan for anything he has been honest and helpful and always has gone out of his way to help and pick up the phone.

I did smack a rock while carving in Dec snow. At first I was a little upset that the lower mild steel A-Arm ball joint just broke in half leaving the ski hanging. But after talking to Dan he designed the kit to have the ball joint snap when you hit something. It sucked having jerry rig the ski to get out of the backcounty ... but the replacement part was only $16, I didn't bend an A-arm, and had no S or E module damage. Since that I have an extra one in my tool kit in the truck, just in case. Looking back at it I would have definitely caused a bunch more damage had the ball joint not broke.... the rock bent the heck out of the carbide and slightly bent the ti-rod. Other than that I just keep an eye on the bolts and snug everything up every few rides.

I would recommend doing business with Alternative Impact.

Cheers
Shawn

turbonium,

I have titanium and chromoly alternative impact A-arms on my M series sleds. That additional cost of the Ti is not worth it IMO. When you snap a Ti in half you'll want to cry for what you paid for them. The Ti is definitely not stronger than his Chromoly version, at least on the M. I'm guessing he uses the same stock Ti for the pro arms too. It needs to be thicker gauge tubing IMO. His Chromoly tubing is much thicker.

I bent an arm last weekend and went with Zbroz. I think they might be on backorder for a couple weeks though. I only got a set thanks to my fairy godmother Michelle@OTS.

Sorry, guys, been busy. Any who the M chassis arms are a combination of 7/8'' and 1'' tube, where as the Polaris arms for the lowers are 1'' all the way around. Just to clarify. Strength wise i would say the difference between the Ti and the moly arms are real comparable. Depending on which sled we are talking about, the arms are either stronger, or not as strong as the stockers. I like to call it a method to the madness. For instance if were talking the XP, and you make the phone call that tells you they are stronger than the stockers....RUN. The Pro on the other hand...well, thats another thing. Sorry about the Polaris pics on the web site, they are from 09 and yes, to put it bluntly, they suck. All the Ti welds are 99% shiny silver...not blue. Also the weight on the Polaris Ti arms and the moly arms on the web site are a misprint. The Ti arms are always 2 lbs lighter per kit that the moly arms on everything. I'll see if i can get that fixed asap. Not sure about the blue spindles? As far as the rod ends (Heim) on the lowers, IMO for $16.50 its a good idea to keep an extra in the tool kit. Takes about 10 minutes to change one, and can mean the difference of finishing the day, or limping to the truck. The purpose of the heim on the lower is for adjustment, as well as an insurance policy that may save the arm. No guarantee, but well worth the chance.:crutch: Thanks!
Dan

Hey Dan, I saw your a-arms are 6.5 lbs lighter than the stockers. With the stock being just about 10lbs for the set your A-Arms must be 3.5 lbs. Is that about right?

That is correct for the Titanium arms.

Dan

my buddy rob just ordered a set of alt's arms for his rmk. he was a little stumped as to how these mounted on the bottom, i know see how it all goes together. i'm interested to see how these look when he gets them mounted up for this weekends ride. i'm debating on just getting these and selling my stockers.

I've been really happy with the durability of the Xbroz A arms, hit lots of stuff w/o any damage so far.

my other buddy bought those just last week. interested to see how his look as well. i'm the only one in the group that still has the originals, i guess i have just been lucky so far.

the new zbros are not as strong as the old ones. i have a set of the old ones and i have hit a ton of stuff and not had any issues. The alt impact look pretty good but i am not a fan of the shape i like rounded things. thats just my feeling im sure it has nothing to do with strength or any of that just personal preference.

Have run alt. impact ti. arms on several sleds including the Pro. They always fit good and the weight loss claims accurate.
Most lightweight stuff is not as tree-resistant as stock but sometimes that's a good thing.
