Bender stage 1

I just had a guy drop off an '02 RX 1 with a Bender Stage One turbo kit on it. He told me it has a boost leak. On the right side, next to the brakes, there is a jet in the bottom of the boost tube. What the heck is it for? and is it supposed to be connected to something? Any help would be appreciated. Sick of looking at it and scratching my head.

That is the pitot jet. It is supposed to be there. I think its purpose is to pressurize the fuel bowls??? There should be a hose coming off of the top and heading to the carbs. As the boost rises, so does the pressure in the fuel bowls. It is used for fine tuning the carb settings for changes in temp and altitude. The bigger the jet, the leaner the sled runs and vise versa.

I have a Bender Stage II and found that it really doesn't do much. It is just for fine tuning.

If you are checking for boost leaks, check the charge tube that runs in the tunnel. I pressured up my system and had a bunch of leaks in the tunnel. When I pulled the charge tube, the mount tabs for the tube was torn and leaking BAD. There were two or three of them with 2"-3" tears. That was a bunch of boost being lost.

I think i'm only getting part of the story, so I'm on to plan B. I'm going to take it out tom. morning and see what it is actually doing. Will let you know what comes of it. Thanks.

I went out and rode it this morning, and right when it starts to boost, it stutters. Will not get fully on boost. Possible fuel issue? What size jet should be in that pilot hole on the boost tube? 140 in it now.

You really need an air/fuel gauge to do this right. Get a wide band setup. You really need to know where you are at to set it up correctly. I have ran everything from a 50 jet to 700 and it ran like crap. I dropped the main jets two sizes and started over. It runs alot better now, but still struggles if it is really warm (40+ deg). I am going to just leave it alone.

What fuel is in the sled? Make sure you have enough octane. I have a 50/50 mixed of premium and 114 octane in the sled right now at 12# boost. I usually run straight 100LL but wanted to give race fuel a try. It is just too expensive around here at $7.40/gallon. I just bought 30 gallons of AV for $4.19/gallon for our upcoming trip.

Not sure what else to tell you to try, but once they are setup they run decent. Go over the Totallyamaha.com in the 4-stroke turbo section and they can probably help you alot more than me. I am fairly new to turbos.

thanks for your help. Called a few people, and they think they have answers, just waiting for them to come over. I'm kinda new to 4 strokers, so i need all the help i can get. Little side note, Just traded my '07 dragon for an '05 M7 turbo. :D Can't wait for the weekend.

FOUND IT!!!!!!! There was a 4 inch long crack on the underside of the boost box/intake plenum (sp?). Someone tried to fix it with silicone!

Is there supposed to be a tube over the jet in the boost tube or is the jet supposed to be open?
