Belt throwing cords at 100 miles???

2012 PRO RMK 163

What the hell? Looked today after the first "real" hard tree pulls (5 min) and my belt is puking cords in 2 spots. Not what I expected with a brand new sled? I took my time and baby'd it during break in and still haven't got to ride it hard due to lack of snow.

Replacing these 115 belts for $180 after each 100 miles is NOT going to work....ideas???

I have just the same issue on mine..its a 155 track.. filling her up with oil today i noticed cords from belt and Had to replace belt. But I have noticed the clutchs is really hot ...can not hold hand on after some boondocking.. and the belts is Way to expensive to throw cords aftet 100 miles ... By the Way sled rips !

I wouldn't worry too much about cleaning belts or breaking them in,although it doesn't hurt, especially if you are having belt issues....it's an easy way to eliminate that as a factor.
Another thing that will junk a belt quickly is any water or snow getting in there.....seal up the area and don't use vents without flow rite material in the clutch area.
Alignment has to be close, but even if it's a little off you shouldn't blow belts quickly. Deflection should be as tight as possible without squeeling or creeping.
Setup/calibration is probably the most important factor. You should see 8200ish rpm at full throttle.....if its much more or less, it will make a lot more heat and shorten belt life dramatically. There's a lot more to clutch calibration, but with the stock prormk calibration, simply adjust arm weight for your altitude and it should work good and belts should last.
That being said, the clutch temps on our 12 163 pro RMK are every bit as hot as any Doo TRA setup I have ever seen.....which is surprising to me as the p-85 has historically run cooler. But no belt issues yet, it got a good test the last couple days in waist deep in BC :face-icon-small-hap

Exactly....good stuff to do but not going to cause belt failures. Where u riding? I'm up for my 4th BC adventure this season. Had 3-4' at the Coq today. Nit sure where we are going tomorrow.

My non cleaned, non warmed, not broken in belt (gates) is perfect after I switched it out on the mountain (broke clutch spring) and it looks perfect.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. after 8 more very light miles (packing gear into our cabin this weekend) I heard a rattling noise when at idle coming from the clutch side. Opened the side panel and see the spider nut is completely backed off and rattling around on the spindle of the clutch.

Took to dealer, they said spider did not come loose (lucky) and installed a new spider nut with red locktite.

Could this loose nut contribute to belt wear? Dealer didn't think so and also told me my belt was "fine, no burnt spots anywhere".

Going to keep running this belt and see how it goes. I have cut off all loose cords showing and will keep close watch on it.

Got a Cat 048 for a spare - thanks PowderPatrol.

That is the second time I have heard of that issue on a 12.:face-icon-small-con
