Belt life on Boosted Nytro

Well, I got one ride on my Nytro under boost, Belt was excellent condition with about 100 miles on it before the boost. One day at boost with a little clutch tuning with the Shockwave (about 10 short climbs) to get a dialed and only about another 10 minutes of serious playing and the belt looked a little haggard already. WTH? I never had issue one with my APEX setup at same HP/Boost. Belt looked great still when I sold it. Things look good on the clutch setup, RPM's good, alignment, backshifting, etc.
Running Supertips in the primary at about 70 grams with exclellent shifting and response with a SnoPro Cat green spring in secondary. Ideas anyone? Just a fluke bad belt? I dont think so......? It backshifts so well I am wondering if it is taking a toll on the belt.

You're kinda hard on parts, huh? ;) :beer;

Got 700 miles on mine.

The belt on it when I bought it made it to 750 before pulling a string...changed it out and kept as a spare.

turbo boosted Nytro here, running 15-16 lbs of boost with a total of 600 miles and no problem. I'm guessing just a fluke deal.:face-icon-small-coo

there's alot of Nytro Turbos with belt problems in Norway. Not sure what they've found as sollution to this, as the only dealer that seems to have found it, wont tell anyone (guess where I'm not buying my next sled)...

Some seems to have issues with the secondary... But. There's also supposed to be a new belt for the Nytro's that is softer... I haven't boosted mine yet, and no sleds around this area that I've had a chance to look into, so I'll let you know the sollution as soon as it's around...

oh, and one guy says that there's some holes under the primary, that needs to be covered...haven't looked into this either, but it kinda makes sence if you get snow constantly thrown into the clutches....

900 miles on our first one before it exploded. They do get hotter than a Apex, so you will need to pay attention to it.

I would say more primary weight, and less helix.

Thanks. More weight and less helix might be a necessary change. Although I hate to do it because of the response, its wicked up and down shifting!

The only time i broke a belt in 1200 miles on my boosted Nytro was beacause snow was getting on it . My side panel was loose and snow was spraying on the belt. I run supertips also with about the same weight, I do not have a shockwave helix yet.

I am running 78 grams and overreving so my guess would also be to much helix. I turned my shockwave out to try and get the rpm down and the 3rd pull up a hill my belt exploded like no belt I have ever seen. Took me an hour to cut it out of the clutches. I am adding weight and hope this cures the problem.

What turbo/how much boost are you running? 78 grams seems like a LOT of weight.

Impulse turbo with powerquest weights cut to Outlaws spec. I also run a purple spring in the secondary. I have the stock track also. Haven't got around to replacing it yet!

Try going to a Red/White Cat secondary versus the green. I think it is too much spring or not enough weight on the secondary. We are seeing AWESOME belt life. I have 500 on mine right now with the original belt. I am sure you checked alignment and deflection.

I have heard/seen that the stock track can be a main cause of this. change to a 162x2.5" and have to reclutch, in your case, maybe you are clutched for it already???

Deflection perfect, alignment is almost spot on. Yesterday I had a great day with the belt, it didn't seem to get any worse???? Go figure. Then I hit a stob or a branch or whatever and ripped a hole under the primary. Could be a different story with todays ride now. Unintended venting.

Belt melting king

The reason nytros are blowing belts is because I bought one. I have been riding Arctic Cats then Polaris for many years and have been known to be VERY hard on belts. I always looked at my Yamaha buddies with 4 million miles on their belts with envy. So finally I bought one of these Yamahas expecting to never buy another belt. 1000 KM like clockwork the belt turns to ****. I have decided those guys with long life on their belts drive like girls and thats why they get the long life. By the way my other sleds used to take out a belt a day with 130 HP and the Nytro lasts 1000 KM with 240 HP, pretty good. I know the key is to let my belt cool between pulls but who the hell has time for that?

Nytros with boost eat belts in deep snow and long pulls:eek:

A Apex has 4 cylinders at 11000 rpm spread and then a gearbox to almost completely eliminate power-pulses:cool:

The Nytro makes more Torque at 8500 rpm on a 3 cylinder engine no gear reduction--- the power-pulses are higher than on a 225 hp 2 cylinder 2 stroke.
That said they are still better than bone stock doos.

You cant have it all just simple facts of Physics.

1500k, lots of boost since day one and a 162. Only replaced one belt(my fault) and I have it as a spare. I clean my clutches and belts. Buddy has gone through a few but he kept getting oil on his clutches. I think he had a hose leak between his valve cover and breather that caused it.

Try going to a Red/White Cat secondary versus the green.

Speedwerx AC Blue (130lb finish) is a good spring between AC R/W (116lb finish steel) and AC SnoPro Green (157 finish) [AC finish measured at 1-7/16"].

EPI Purple is slightly less finish than Cat Green.

Keeping in mind that finish loads are different between yamaha secondaries and cat secondaries (Yamaha finish measured at 1-1/4")

1600kms on my first belt, 700 NA and 900 turbo.

and it blew because i rolled and a piece got bent and rubbed on the belt, otherwise it would have lasted a lot longer still. it was still looking good.
