Belt Faliure

I was just checking my clutches on my Pro and noticed the belt looked a little funny. It delaminated a 4 inch section of the top of the belt! its a 3211115 belt.

Anyone know what causes that? I have never seen anything like it. Usually it just pulls a cord out and the belt tears in half or a million pieces.

I thought it was a defective belt but after calling the dealer they told me Polaris does not warranty belts. :face-icon-small-fro

The first belt lasted 800 miles of hard mountain riding and now the new one only lasted 200ish.

Snows a flying...

Pulled my after 850 miles. It was starting to fray in the same way. I was afraid it was on it's way out and I was starting to lose about 200-300 RPM's as well. It hurts to buy a new $160 Polaris belt. I have yet to actually lose one while riding though.

What is a good amount of miles for a belt to last in a mountain application? I know that we can blow belts on Rev XP's without trying to hard here...they don't like breaking trail for miles at high speed even here where it is relatively flat.

looks like a heat issue or could be defective. All my belts that delaminated at the top seemed to be because they got hot. Wet spring snow breaking trail seemed to be my belt killer.

Lost a belt this weekend also, Buying a new3211115, but is anyone having luck with the less expensive belts. I have ran both and couldn't tell a difference, but I didn't do it back to back. Wondering if any one has?

I had one last 40 miles. Noticed 4 cogs missing during my pre-ride inspection. Took it to the dealer and they gave me a new one. Aligned my clutches and belt looks fine... And they fully shift out now too!

Edit: forgot I'm in the pro section. Above was on my '10 dragon. But, still hurts to verify clutch alignment!

your dealer is lieing if he says polaris does not warranty belts. polaris will warranty belts depending on the type failure. Delamination is a type of failure that they will warranty. Should be able to get at least 1000 miles out of a belt.

I tried a softer compound Polaris belt (forget the number off hand). I lost RPM's because of the compound. I think you might have to make up 200-300 RPM's. Just a heads up.

I got 400 miles of deep snow riding and my outer cord pulled and frayed.

Not that bad but I would have liked to get 6-700 miles.

I think I will float the secondary..... remove a inner washer that should help.

you need to check a few things, first are all the motor mount bolts in and tight? (they have found broken bolts) second, check clutch alignment, third, make sure both the belt and the clutches are clean and in good shape, fourth, how many miles on the sled? its a good idea to replace clutch springs anytime you have rpm issues/belt problems, as well as at least once a season...on our dragons we were getting any where from 1000 to 1500 miles on a belt, with all of the above accounted for....also, for those whodont want to run the 115 belt..you need to keep a close eye on your belts..its tough to explode a 115 belt, not so on others..if you explode a belt on a full throttle run, think about how many rpms the motor will zing..and what that does to the motor...crank pistons and rods..not good...

^^^^agreed. Saw my brother lose a belt and tear through his plastic and vents as well. That sucks.

The 080 Belt is softer...AND...is different dimensions than the 115...it is NOT a replacement for the 115

Try the 122...it is a kevlar belt like the 115, but is cut instead of ground...exact same dimensions as the 115...and costs less than $100.

And as mentioned above, check your alignment and motor mounts.

update: I ran the belt about another 20 miles and then took it off and switched belts. I could then peel the outside layer right off.

Once i showed the belt to the dealer they said they would warranty it. They checked it over pretty good for flat spots and burns but it all checked out ok.

Now they are checking out the clutch to see why it was only hitting 7300 rpms... hopefully it one of those defective Polaris primary springs and it wont cost me anything...

If you have your heart set on running the 115 belt, here is a link to a Dealer, that sells them online for around $140ish, still pricy, but no where the $160 to $190 most stealers are charging. They are loacted in Michigan, but ship nationwide.

My dealer said that the Kevlar belts were too hard and scoring the clutch faces. Is he just wanting to sell the more expensive belt or have some of you experienced this? Thx.

The 3211115 belt is the expensive one, and it is one of the Kevlar belts.
3211122 would be the next best option from Polaris. Same as the 115, but cut instead of ground.... As mentioned above.

I ran the 3211122 on a Pro-r 600 and didn't make 250 miles breaking trail in 2+ft of pow. For the type of riding the RMK is put thru I would not even think of running the 3211122 unless it was to get me out of the woods. My $.02

The 122 is a lower grade belt-that's why it is only found on a 600. The115 is expensive but you get what you pay for.
