Beacon and probe advice

The group I ride with plan to make a trip to the mountains and are in the market for beacons and probes. We have shovels, and currently ride mainly in the Black Hills. From reviews I have read the Tracker 2 from BCA is one of the most popular. I also read about the some of the T2s having a software bug, but I would assume the new ones would have the worked out? Money isn’t a real issue due to the fact that I couldn’t put a price on not having someone come back, but I don’t see spending more to get the same features either. As far as the probes, is there any that we should stay away from? From what I have been told and what I have read the bigger the diameter the better and to stay away from anything shorter that 260cm. Two of us will be going to Haydays with the plan of purchasing six beacons and six probes, so any help would be appreciated.

A great place to start is Mike Duffy's website. He has a list of his recommendations. On a side note, GOOD JOB on not trying to cheap out on the most important items for snowmobiling!!! :thumb:

A second on Duffy's website. As far as beacons, most of the guys I ride with either have BCA or Pieps. I've run both and currently own a Peips and really like it, but honestly the best beacon is the one you practice with and know how to use with your eyes closed!!!

Probes, I've had aluminum and now I have a set of BCA carbon. Basically, light weight and very strong, no need to worry about bending. Get a better set because if or when you deploy these for the real deal, you want a set you know you can count on!!

Talk to Mike Duffy at Hay Days. Can't recall what booth he will be in but he will be there and tell you the honest truth.

Avalanche1 and BCA are sharing booth #SCS5 at Hay Days. Next to the food court, big trees and swap. I can answer your questions regarding gear and show you what works. No bugs in the Tracker 2. We don't sell gear at the event, but can direct you to someone who does.
