We rode by the recovery area Saturday. The area of recovery was only 20' or so from the groomed trail. From the looks of the "grave" he was recoverd from, it only looked to be 6-7' deep at most. His sled looked to be around 4-5' down. We ride by this hill side every time we access the Flattops. I have not seen a slide of this size here before. Those I ride with say they have seen quite a few slides there.
We were told the rider was in a sitting position when recovered, and possibly death resulted from a neck injury. This is hear say. If anyone knows, please let us know.
The snow is getting incredibly deep. The hill that slide had a large cornice at the top. You could see the remains of part of it that did not slide. I have not seen snow as deep as it is on the Flattops, this time of year, since I have been riding there.
Be very CAREFUL. The wind has blown many slopes extremely deep with snow.
Prayers to those involved.
