BD Pro-Lite Rear bumper kit for 1m. Good Product??

Any running one of these BD rear bumper kits for 1m?? I want to thin the tunnel in the rear on my '02 mtn cat. I was going to order this kit, wondering if anyone else has ever tried one?

Maybe some better pictures of it??

Thanks

I am not a big fan of the way they did their gussets. The stock cat gussets are MUCH stronger looking. check the mods sticky for pics of my tunnel.

I am running one but I agree with Rixster on the gussets. If you run one you will want to fish plate the inside of the tunnel because it will crack.

I now have the BDX bumper with Cat 09 edge rails and gussets. I don't have pictures on my computer but can take some tonight if you would like.

I am in the process of doing one right now. The instructions that come with the kit are for an m chassis, so I call BD and they said just use them they are the same. They really are not the same but they are close, so there is a little figuring and experimenting. They don't really have a good way to attach the cooler bracket, so that will take some thinking, and the same for a snow flap if you run one. I don't see what rixter is talking about with the gussets. Maybe he can elaborate? I did this to an M7 last year but used the cat gussets and made my own tunnel end cap. I figured this year I would buy the kit and it would be simpler and quicker, but thats what I get for thinking!

I want to give my sled a bit more of a VE tunnel look, also want to get rid of the ****ty plastic bumper. I may just try and fab something up with a Pro X 440 rear bumper. Someone has to have some pics of the BD bumper, or your own custom job. I need inspiration.

I forgot to mention the instructions part :tape2: I made my own end cap and put one of those flame snow flaps on, just to piss off my buds. I made the end cap so that I could rivet through the cap, flap, cooler and tunnel with stainless rivets and so far it has held up well.

hers a few pic, Its a 09 ski doo bumper, 09 cat gussets and a custom build cooler cover.

If you taper the way Rixster did you won't have the tunnel cracking issues like the BDX kit has. The BDX kit has you make a vertical cut in the tunnel which creates a crack path, if that makes sense.

I love the way I can ride the sled now with the kit installed. The new back step totally improves the handling. The stock rear footboards used to float on the snow and push it over when doing steep side hills. Now it cuts and holds the line better.

It did take some tinkering to get it to fit right. BD's instructions were kind of a joke on the 1m. I cut the rear like 3 times to finally get the perfect fit. Then the rear top of the tunnel started cracking from lack of support for the cooler. I ended up re-using a cut off section of the foot board rails to reinforce it. Ran it across the top and riveted through it and the tunnel and into the coolers back edge to reinforce across the back and its plenty sturdy now and looks pretty clean. The kit should have come with 1m instructions and a reinforcement piece for the rear of the tunnel.

I just did mine this summer. For the tunnel end cap I purchased one for the newer M sleds from the dealer. The cap ends up being 1" narrower so I cut it in half an spliced a piece of aluminum in the middle with rivets. In order to get it to fit the BDX bumper you have to do a little cutting and filing, it then rivets to the existing tunnel like factory. To strenghten the cooler I the cut 2 small pieces of 1" x 1" aluminum angle rivet it to the end cap then just weld the other flange to where the brackets were before. Then for the snowflap just used a Skinz product and sandwiched it between the end cap and a piece of 1/16" aluminum plate. I now it sounds like a lot of work but really not all that bad. But when finished it almost looks factory. I can post pics if you like.

Here is reusing the stock snow flap and reusing part of the cut off rails to strengthen where the cooler hangs down from the tunnel. I had some scrap diamond plating to make tabs for holding the flap.

SLP Tunnel Conversion Kit

Question has any tried the SLP Setup for $229.99, Rixster thanks for the pictures, by the way how do you like the Power Claw Track on your KK, I just installed one on my KK and very impressed with it MADDOGWFO

The bumper in those pics is the black diamond bumper. The kit that SLP sells is just the BD kit. After installing mine and riding it, it definitely helps the handling and a huge difference in how it goes in the snow. I wish they would have made the rear step so it would go about 4" further back though. When I go to put my foot back there while riding, I step back there and there is nothing there. Makes the running board pretty short especially after getting off of my M with the 09 boards.
