BD e-key.... is it worth it?

hey there fellow snowesters, i've got a BD race gas setup on the way ( thx rolling20s) and i was wondering what peoples' take on the timing keys were? i live @ around 700 feet, would this be a necessary goodie?
i do ride valemount and revy ( 6-8+k feet).

Boondocker swears by it. There was another company on here last year selling em too. I called them and asked if it really was nessicary. The response I got was its a waste of money, just run enough gas to handle the boost you want. In theory it should allow you to have better bottom end and more boost on top. They said they were only making it because they had some customers who were adimit about wanting one and couldn't be told otherwise.

I'd like to stress that this is all hearsay as I have no personal experience with the timing key. I don't run one, nor does anyone I ride with.

thanks, i was kinda thinking that too..... run enough fuel to keep det at bay under boost.
but i'm also open to other opinions

Well if it helped keep the bottom end clean AND allowed for more power on the top end then it would be beneficial, but more boost doesn't nessicarly mean more power. No ones been able to tell me if its better to run 8 psi with normal timing or 9 psi retarded. All I've gotten is what I've heard from boondocker and the other company making them.

One thing to think about is if you take the timing key out and just run higher octane you are gonna loose bottom end by running more race fuel

I think it was ovs that had them also, I ran bd the timing module on mine last season. I put it on right away when I installed my turbo and never disconnected it to see if it made a difference. I was using the attitude fuel box last year and my machine ran sh!ty down low because of it. I have a boost it box now and will try machine out for first time in a couple of weeks. This year I will unplug timing module and test to see if there is any difference.

cool, keep us posted.... i had asked neil at boost-it for some information about the boost-it setup. lots of people (close friends included) that swear by the boost-it solution for fueling boosted sleds..... will see what happens with the standard BD controller

Tryed to run my 13 assault bd turbo with the timing, then without it. Noticed big difference in hitting dET, and i looked like by the 02 gauge that it was more rich when the e-key was installed.

I ment more of how much boost could you run without detonating with the key and how much boost can you run without detonating without it?

6psi no detonation with the E-key. Tryed without the E-key at same boost and hit detonation right away.

thanks for the information guys..... for the 100 bucks'ish for the key, might be worth it if i'm saving the motor.
keep the reports coming:face-icon-small-hap

e key is a good piece of mind specially if your trying to run crap gas like av gas and pump if u dont use it id be running a 50 50 c12 mix if not be prepared to replace pistons

10-4 nytro charged... there is an AFD depot just north of here.... was looking to run C112 and pump premium. can get up to C120 if needed. sucks its 4 bux + a litre for the 120.
