Iam gonna get a BCA float throttle avi pack.
Iam wondering what else I need to buy so I can refill it myself the cheap way...It looks like the cylinder is not included.

At this point I think I need the pack, float cylinder and consumer refill kit..
Anything else I need?

Thanks for any advice! Ryan

Check to see who refills them around you. Either BCA or Snowbigdeal should have a good idea of that.

not much else you should need... a pack with a can, and a few o rings so you can test it a few times & get used to it!

Make sure you get plenty of bacon as well... beacons are no guarantee, but a pack full of bacon makes sure your riding buddies are motivated to find you:face-icon-small-hap Good call on getting a pack!

Btw, there's no "refilling it yourself" really, you need to find a place that does it. SOME fire depts will...but none around us are willing. Either way, it's usually only $10 to fill, test it twice, make sure you have a good feel for it, and call it good!

Actually you can fill the canister yourself. Get the paintball fill adapter off e-bay or elsewhere that attaches to a scuba tank. They can be found for less than $20 with a little pressure gauge on them. If you don't have any scuba tanks then take the adapter and your canister to a scuba shop and they will use it to fill your canister. The other option is to find any local shop that charges paintball canisters with air. It's a common paintball gun quick-dinconnect fitting. Nothing special. Just have your o-rings in hand.

I would have someone refill it. You are going to blow it to test it once. Then you probably aren't going to ever blow it again. Not like you are going to get caught in avys 3 times a year and if you are the pack is not going to protect you forever. Kind of a pain to have a scuba tank in the garage and use it once or twice over 5-6 years. No if you have several buddies who all need to test their bags, maybe it's a good idea to have one of you own a refill station.

PAINTBALL= BOO

I would use caution when using paintball shops to refill your avy canisters. most of these shops are makeshift at best and use sub-par equipment. When refilling, it is essential to use Dive air or similar dry compressed air. Personally I do not want to take a chance of my canister freezing from air that has moisture builup.

Thanks for all the info guys, You can never be too prepared for the backcountry and the Mtns.

Been reading lots about avy conditions, slope angles, beacon use, packs etc. Just being smart while out riding.

Trying to educate myself so I can help myself or others in the event of a avi..Just need some snow to practice finding buried beacons!

Thanks! Ryan

Where are you located Ryan?

You can practice in a field of long grass. Great for the first few times you try out a new beacon too. Just have a buddy place it in a field. You will be amazed at the range you will get. Not good for the close range search which can be tricky but great to get familiar with basic beacon controls and functions.

Thanks for the info guys! I live in Bothell, WA and ride all over the state.
Hopefully get a first trip to Idaho and Wyoming this year!

Well, if you lived closer I could help you out with refills. But Colorado is aways off....lol.

Good point, I figured if ABS uses dry nitrogen then that's what I will use as I have access.

Ryan I90 Motorsports in Issaquah can refill both Snowpulse and BCA. Remko at I90 is committed to servicing any avy pack he sells. Great guys to deal with.
