BCA float 30 refills

Looking seriously into picking up a BCA float 30 system and have read some places that the cylinders can be re-filled at any paintball shop. Is this true? anyone with personal experience that could confirm this? thanks

Bought my Float 30 this spring from a ski shop in California for an awesome deal. They had already test fired the cylinder prior to shipping it (I did not know this at the time). Checked with a number of BCA dealers in town, but no one was was set up to fill the cylinders. The local sports store that does paintball stuff wasn't sure if they were set up or not.

The only ones in town that had a clue was the local Yamaha dealer (Also a BCA dealer) but they weren't going to have the equipment to do so until this fall. I ended getting it filled at the skidoo dealer in another town (Another BCA Ddealer), who also had a dive shop and had refilled them before.

Luckily he had filled them before, and had the proper nozzle the fill the cylinder. The first time he went to fill the cylinder, it would not fill. There is a small o-ring in the deploy valve that can get pushed out of its grove and/or torn when the bag is deployed. The bag supposed to come with a spare o-ring and special o-ring lube from the factory, but mine did not. Luckily the shop had replacent o-rings. It cost me $20 to have it refilled, which I thought was kinda steep but I was able to do a test deploy of my own to make sure it worked.

BCA was supposed to get a network of established dealers set up to fill the cylinders, otherwise you can send it to them. Also SnowBigDeal here on the forum is a dealer for avalanche equipment and has an exchange service for the cylinders as well.

Good luck, and let's make sure we don't have to use our bags!

Yes. I was told paintball, scuba store and fire stations with air tanks. You may need scuba to paintball fill adaptor. When I got mine at haydays they test fired and filled it back up out of compressed air tank.

I talked with BCA at hay days, they said use a new o-ring each fill. I asked if there was any issue with filling it with S.C.B.A. fill equipment at my fire station ( I am a member of fire dept. ). He said no problem, need 2,700 psi & simple quick coupler adapter. This may add a fill option to anyone that has access to this equipment, will try to put together adapter this week and will post my results here.

Yeah the place I had mine filled knew what pressure to fill them for (2500-2700 psi at room temp [70 deg f]) and also knew to let it sit outside to cool off for a few minutes as filling the cylinder heats it up.

I had mine filled yesterday at a paint ball shop. I bought the o-rings from SBD for $10 for 5 rings. BCA has a great video to watch on replacing the o-ring and filling. Make sure you get air not CO2. Watch the heat - I dropped 300 lbs even with a slow fill. Best part - - -$4 refill, plus $2 o-ring.

Whether you have a BCA Float airbag or a Snowpulse airbag, the procedures are about the same. Each time you fire the airbag, you should replace the O-rings and use a little grease on the rings to help keep the seal.
The fitting on each of the canisters is a standard paintball fitting. Anywhere who can fill a canister to 2700 - 3000 PSI should know how to fill a canister. Make sure they are using dry compressed air (SCUBA, Fire Dept) and they know how to fill a canister properly. The trick is to fill the canister very slowly; the slower the better. If the canister gets warm during the fill, you will loose some PSI when the canister cools.

thanks guys, lots of good info there. Only question is, local paintball shops generally fill tanks with CO2 dont they? guess i will just have to check out a few places around here.
what is your price, shipping included for us canadian guys snowbigdeal? im in BC, postal code V4V1V1 if that helps.

do you specify that you want it filled with compressed air and not CO2? to my knowledge paintball shops fill tanks with CO2. At least all the ones here in Kelowna.

Zac's Tracs can fill BCA and SnowPulse airbag cylinders.

Catch up to us at a course or a Western Canadian snowmobile tradeshow and we have an air system to refill SnowPulse and BCA cylinders.
