BCA Float 30 Avalanche Airbag Details

The pre-season orders that were placed last spring are taking precedent and are being shipped as we speak and will continue to be shipped into March. Any orders that were placed by retailers in the summer or fall/09 will not ship until we have fulfilled the earlier pre-seasons. Important to note that BCA has encountered some unexpected hurdles in bringing this pack to market in such a short time (18 months from concept to production). We are currently taking all feedback and working to incorporate that and other improvements into the next model (possible improvements include hydration system, fabric waterproofing etc). The increase in cost is necessary to include these improvements and yes, it does take money to make a high quality airbag. Goat is right...the first year price was established before we ran into the unexpected higher cost of engineering, testing and production. We appreciate the feedback and are constantly striving to give the highest industry standard of customer service and products.

I was trying to help out my local dealer and buy from him since I did not buy a Polaris, but enough is enough.

Lots of THANX to Cody at SnowBigDeal, ordered yesterday and shipped today.

Although I wonder why BCA has not filled other customers pre-paid orders as yet.

Mine is on it's way though. :face-icon-small-hap

If you are still waiting, either bug BCA or buy from SnowBigDeal. You cannot go wrong ordering from SnowBigDeal.

I didn't think Cody knew anything about airbags :face-icon-small-sho .......glad he could help you out. j/k. Cody's my bro, so I just like to give him crap.

BCA is filling as many orders as possible. They are shipping small shipments to a bunch of dealers rather than filling complete orders one dealer at a time. We still have a bunch of packs on backorder with BCA; we happened to be lucky enough to have BCA ship our partial order. Thanks BCA! We still have a lot of packs on backorder, so hopefully all the other dealers don't think we are getting our orders fulfilled and they are not, because that's not the case.

Brian was a lot of help today too. After talking with Cody and sleeping on it, I realized that I should probably just order a spare canister instead of buying a scuba tank and refill stuff. So Brian was sweet enough to hold my order (I won't be getting it until Monday anyway, now Tuesday) and include the additional canister for $125. And if I decide in less than 30 days to go the other route, I can return it for a full refund.

Now I just need to get a few extra o-rings and some grease.

Thanx so much SnowBigDeal

As for the other comment, it was nothing against SnowBigDeal or even BCA. I realize you have not gotten all that you ordered nor has anyone else. However, you have been lucky enough to have received enough to have filled your pre-paid orders. And thank goodness for me, a few extra for us that tried to be good to our local dealers with zero luck.

Rode with it for a couple days last weekend and was very happy with the way it rode with all my gear in it. The hydration system worked fine. I carried about 40 oz in a long bladder and fit it into the empty space below the air bag components. Stayed put standing up.

Got mine yesterday with the spare canister, hooked it up, and scared the hell out of the dog. It worked awesome and was firm for about 15 minutes, it then started slowly losing air. I suppose with snow on it, it may lose air earlier and a little quicker. I would expect this to be completely normal and actually what you want to happen. If I am buried, I want to be supplied with some air. I realize this is not the primary intention of the bag, but definitely a secondary plus.

I was surprised the bag was yellow and not orange. I would think that orange would stand out more on the snow. I also found the trigger to be a little short and really had to force it to come out of the trigger cover so that I could screw it onto the trigger. Getting the quick connect on is not easy either, you have to work it to get it to close the connection. Push the two together really hard.

The pack has a ton of room, but only slightly more than my Dakine Heli-Pro, however it is a lot bigger than my Heli-Pro. I will be riding with it this weekend so we will see how it goes. If I had it last weekend it would have been deployed just after watching the snow crack as my ski hit it and the thought run through my head that I just ordered the thing and now I need it, NOW. Throttle NOW, it is only a small hill, but you need to move NOW. Luckily only a small slab let loose, but I was none to happy. I made my hubby ride the new sled out and I took my loving mod sled that did not fail me. We went up up and away from that stuff, busting through some deep drifts. I just wanted out.

Thanx again SnowBigDeal.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention, make sure you have gloves on when you pull it. It takes a little bit of force and the cable is thin and can cut your finger.

I finally tested mine as well, Second on scaring the dogs, its louder than i expected. I could hear the air leaking out on mine, it was around 10-15min before i could really tell. I went straight to BCA in Boulder CO and had them fill mine up, $20 to inspect my tank and filling equip, as well as telling me my repacking was good to go. I like it alot!

Damn, I paid $2.00 to get mine refilled. I used the same o-ring, but have some on order. With the cost of the o-ring and shipping, it will be about $2.40 to have it filled. I bought 2 canisters so I have a spare. I do not trust my friends or my hubby; I know it will get pulled.

I could not hear the air leak out of mine. Since you are there, you may want to have them test the bag. Polar Express had one that had a leak in the seam. Very small, but he could hear it. I could hear nothing on mine. After 15 minutes it had just a few wrinkles, but was still pretty hard, it took almost 30 minutes before you could really tell it was deflating. Don't let them charge you for a canister refill on that either. They have been really awesome about fixing any problems with the bags.

Might have to cut a hole so it leaks out faster..after about a minute, i'd want that air!

A good question would be, how long does an avy last, you want the bag to be full for the entire slide untill it stops. Im afraid if you were to cut a hole to get air out faster, it may seperate at that spot. Idk, mine leaks out faster than Snow XTC's. BCA told me some you can hear the air, some you can't, its designed that way, it was at the seam where the plastic coating is at so its in the normal spot.

Well I was impressed with the bag this weekend. It is not light. I packed with the same stuff that I had in my heli-pro and it is a noticable difference, but not really noticable on my back. My shoulders did hurt a little more. I am still looking for that middle ground on where it feels good on and is easy to put on and take off.

The only real complaint I have is the waist belt. With all my gear on (layers, tek vest, beacon, jacket) I cannot reach over with both hands to fasten the waist belt. The non-adjustable side either needs to be adjustable or to be about 3 to 6 inches longer. Also, the adjustable side loosens up to easily. The buckles are also sharp on the edges. I am going to lengthen the non-adjustable side on mine. I can get it undone with one hand, but need the hubby to fasten for me.

Other than the issues with the waist belt, it is a great pack and holds a lot.

Yea my son in law has the same complaint with his BCA 30 the waist strap but other than that he likes it and it is a nice pack. I will add that I have the same problem with my ABS 15 the waist strap is hard to buckle because one side buckle is over to the left too far .
