BC, bucket list, best place to sled?

Im 46 now, and sledding in BC has been on my list of places to go for a long time now. A former classmate found out a little more than two weeks ago he had brain cancer, he died Sunday. He was 46 also.

So, we only live once, and a trip to BC needs to happen, not this winter, but the following for sure. I need opinions on where, and why, with rentals being an option.

Go....

BC

The only place that i have ridden in BC was Golden - but damn was it worth every bit of the drive! I am planning a trip to Sicamous maybe this winter. My friends that live in Canada say that it is even better. I am sure people will have a lot better suggestions than i do but that what i know !

I live in the south eastern corner of BC. 3 hours from Calgary and 6 hours from Great Falls. I have ridden in Elkford, Fernie, Sparwood, Cranbrook, Golden, Revelstoke, Sicamous, Kelowna, Vernon, Salmon Arm, Squamish, Whistler, Castlegar, Nelson, and they all have great places to ride and great snow. It would be hard to narrow it down to one place. My advice would be to doo a circle route and include as many places as you could get to in a week. That is very realistic as the riding areas are relatively close. Lots of local guys will show you around for free, just to get out and "take a friend snowmobiling" sort of thing. By surfing the forums, these dudes are available and it will save a lot of money. There is also the "northern areas" like Valemont, McBride, ClearWater, Blue River and Kamloops. Just getting further and further away from Wisconsin.

Here is a link to my YouTube channel and what the riding is like in the "Kootenays" or south eastern BC. There is also a video from a trip my wife and i did, "RidewithChrisBrown" on the Pemberton Icefields. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC48iFyhzIwXqUchGGWQ_9Cg

The Pemberton Icefields north of Whistler are extra-ordinaire, the snow depths in Revelstoke can be huge, the Sicamous area has awesome powder for most of the early season and well into March, and the Koots, whether eastern or western have very little traffic and still remain a secret to the masses.

Enjoy the planning phase and look at all the details. fs

Whistler, Brandywine area. Hook up with someone local to show you the unreal Glacier riding.

Hers a quick vid. its about 1000ft vertical elevation climb. If you look in the background when I turn around, the flat looking snow is actually glacier thats anywhere from 1 to 200 ft thick. Best time to go is from April to june 15. before that, you have more chance of being snowed out(no vis, waaaay to deep of snow).
Possibly Canadian snowmobile adventures can rent you a sled with a guide onto the glacier.
It's not recommended to go without someone with local knowledge. There are lots of things that can kill you. Not trying to scare you, but it is intimidating when you first see the mountains on your sled.
Elevation is 4000-8000ft.

northern b.c has some great riding with few crowds, smithers, terrace, kitimat & stewart has some of the best riding anywhere with few people.revy & sica has some great snow & easy acsess though.

Only place I have ridden is Revy. Went over thanksgiving a few years ago. We had an excellent time. Very deep snow for so early in the year.

BC Bucket List

I tell everyone I meet there is one snowmobiling Mecca everyone should go before they die it is the Pemberton Ice Cap. You can stay in Whistler and its 45 min north. You can literally tape your throttle open and run out of gas. It is epic.

Ride with Geoff Kyle out of Whistler he will show you all the sweet spots, he is a snowmobiling guru. What I like best about him is he loves to ride and it shows in his enthusiasm.

Go for at least a week and you can also go to Brandywine, Sproat, Pemberton. You will be glad you went.

For that once in a lifetime ride I'd say Bourne Glacier out Eagle Pass way, Sicamous area. Unbelievable ride in, and sameo once you get on the glacier, its just miles and miles of miles and miles of snow covered ice. Sicamous is my main base so of course I'm prejudice about it, lots of snow and different riding on four different mountains....Sherm

Go for as many places as you possibly can. There are so many outstanding areas in BC you can't go wrong anywhere. Find "the guy" in the far corner of the parking lot gearing up with the beat up clothes and the well used sled that is idling perfectly, you'll know him when you see him. Make friends with him, if he will take you along keep up and ride hard. Buy the beers later and I promise you will see things that most people will never see in their lives.

What, no guy wearing a sideways monster cap with rap music cranked in the parking lot?

So true about beat up clothes and maybe even a beat up truck.

Can you imagine how heavy that is on the roof? Looks like glacier snow. is it?

Been too long now, but used to know the story for the photo. Thought it was cool, and keep the gif.

Hopefully somebody will know, and chime in.

If I'm not completely senile, I'm remembering that as a storage place for summer road stuff and in theory should all melt?
