Bag for Yeti cargo rack

Liking the Enduristan bag so far...

Easy to clean, stay dry and holds its shape.

Hardcase versus Soft

Soft - doesn't protect contents but protects rack and mounts by absorbing part of the impact.

Hard Case - protects contents but transfers any impact directly to the rack and mount.

New Enduristan Bag Arrived.... Will show on yeti rack once it’s delivered.

Did a comparison to Mountain Addiction and Timbersled bags

Mountain Addiction
Pros
Dam tough bag... used on most of our tour bikes.
Good structure.. not floppy.
Rock solid tunnel attachment.(for Timbersled!)

Cons
Painful to take on/off the bike... takes some serious effort. Consider it permanently attached to the bike!.
Would take some modification to use on yeti rack
Get water logged and takes a bit to dry out.
Difficult to clean inside. (Incase some idiot puts a banana in there or forgets to lock the thermos top!.)

Timbersled Adventure
Pros
BIG... Looks good..! and easy to removed /attach.
Could use clips and make strap to fit yeti rack.

Cons
Requires brackets to be mounted permanently on the tunnel.. (Timbersled)
Brackets are very poor design imho and make this bag useless.
Top isn’t well sealed... expect powder snow inside your bag if you lay the bike over.
Timbersled/ Yeti Logo Mismatch.
Unused... but probably a wet bag versus the rest

Timbersled Small? Bag
Pros
Small light, quick on / off. Cheap!..
Reasonably water proof .. very easy to dry overnight.
Cons
Very Small!.. Timbersled / yeti logo mismatch!
Moves around a bunch and rubs paint off tunnel!

Enduristan Bag
Pros
Low profile, mid size bag or large!... depends what you put in it how effective the space is.
Material & zipper looks very water tight looks very easy to dry out quickly.
Cons
Low profile shape makes space usuage less versatile
Slightly floppier then the rest of the bags.

Metal hooks - good or bad no idea yet... but easy to remove and just use the strap.

Pelican case

I went with a Pelican Air 1485 case.

Old thread but pulling to the top as the responses were still pertinent to those looking for Yeti tunnel bags today. There are likely some newer solutions available as well that can be added to the thread.

"800tundra" and "GreenState", Did either of you have to trim the hinge-side tabs on the Pelican Air 1485. I had a 1485 from my previous rig and just set it on a Yeti rack yesterday and it won't sit down into the rack due to the hinge-side tabs. I know I'll have to remove the rear upper crossbeam but was just test fitting. Maybe once I add in the cross pieces of bar stock it will raise it enough so it will sit fine. Or I could trim those tabs so it sits down in there. Just wondering what both of you did. Unlikely, but maybe the width of the rack is different now. Can either of you measure the inside width of the rack? Thanks.

Anyone else found/used bags or cases not mentioned in this thread already?

Yes I had to trim a bit...

Thanks Greenstate. I found the same thing...unfortunately after I'd trimmed it. Ha. I should have prepped the flatstock bracket and test fit before trimming, but i didn't think it would raise it as much as it did. No big deal, but yes, no trimming needed if one runs two pieces of flatstock and mount the pelican air 1485 to that.

Simply remove the yeti rack's rear upper roundbar, as others have shown, so you can mount the pelican case far enough rearward so the ratchet on the gas can strap has clearance to ratchet and you are good to go.

I used some .125" x 1.5" stock to make cross pieces to mount the case to. 3/8" bolts fit the hole in the Yeti rack.

I removed the rear crosspiece so the case clears the gas can.

All the hardware is stainless and the washers inside the case are rubber backed and waterproof.

I also replaced the factory pins that always fell out with stainless locking pins with retainers. I put some heat shrink tape around the retainer so it wouldn't damage anything, not sure if that was necessary, but hey...

i believe i just modified the gas can Strap length so I could keep rack/weight as far forward as possible as I carry alot of of tools /weight in my pelican. But that was me just being fussy

Good tip. I'll have to take a look as I'd also prefer to have the case further forward. Maybe it will be obvious when I look, but what did you modify? Maybe shorten the strap loop that goes over the gas can spout so the rachet sits further up and clears the top of the case? Trying to think through it without it sitting in front of me right now...

The mounts for the yeti rack were originally designed to fit 3/4in alum square tubing.

you can save a sh*tpile of money if you just grab a couple aluminum bars, jam them in there and bolt a pelican case on top

Great point! My kit came free with the rack, but those with no rack and using a hardcase could simply order only the rack mount bases and do the square tube trick you mention. As a matter of fact, i might look into doing that and selling my rack to someone that may use it for a bag rather than hard case. Money in my pocket and lighter without the rack.

Just install Pelican style hard box. Easier access, more durable, more waterproof. Only got a year out of bags on racks but years out of boxes from home depo. Rentals are tuff on stuff.
