Had a backfire on a XP that just turned 57mi. Is that the break in chip burn out?:confused: I also put a HPS can on and love it.
This thing flys for stock. Spring and weights change on clutching. Not sure what dealer put but pulls hard still has stock gear and pulled uphill 8200rpm @ 90mph from what I could see.:D:D:D

Most Doo's backfire through the exhaust after you shut them off, normal. No break-in chip on the 800R.

backfire

Alot of sleds do that especially when you run them hard and the pipe is super hot the backfire is unburnt fuel going through the cylinder and igniting in the exhaust pipe when you shut it off.

How is the oil consumption on your XP's?? Mine seem to smoke like a sive and uses alot of oil.

Mine seems to be normal 57 mi. and I would guess about 3/4" out of the tank. No excessive smoke. 166 belt looks good no marks.:D:D
Oh by the way when I said up hill I meant up a slight grade on a smooth groomed trail. Saw the same speed up and down the trail.

Get your oiler adjusted. I was going through a TANK of Amsoil for about 3/4 tank of gas my first two rides(XP x 154) - once we adjusted her up I'm using nearly half a tank of oil on a full tank of fuel. Easy fix!

Backfiring and a lot of oil for me also. It will definitely backfire less if you let it idle for 5-10 seconds after riding. I took my sled in and had the dealer check the oil adjustment. They would not change the setting since it was with in spec.

All and all this is one great sled. I tried to ride my buddies M8 yesterday and I felt totally awkward after getting used to the XP's handling.

Just went and looked at the oil burn and it looks like a about 1/4 tank of oil on 57 mi. and the backfire was from killing the motor abruptly.
Someone had made the comment about the added power at 100-125mi. so I was curious if there was a chip burn out or something electrical that advances the timming or leans the mixture or what?:confused: It feels pretty good now.:D I was shocked at the power for a stock sled. Big diff. from the 01 800 highmark my dad had.
He always seems to get the cars, sleds and anything else with a motor built mid week.:confused: They always run strong. Wish I had his luck on that.:(

Things are just loosening up and getting broke in, should continue to get stronger and stronger up to about 400 miles.:D:beer;
