Backcountry snowboard access - 2up

When you guys "double up" how do you determine who gets the shorts straw ans has to ski?

;)

The best way to double up on a sled is to have each person stand on one side of the sled. Much easier to maneuver the sled that way, but it does take a little practice.

the guy on the throttle needs to know how to ride no doubt.. took my crew some practice for sure.. you'd be amazed how much **** u can concur though once u and the spare rider have this down.. right sled and right people, u can ride up some serious isht!

We actually do it a different way, we ride one in front sitting down holding the powder bar, and one behind standing, having the board or skis on his pack.

If you top out, the rear guy can give the rider the ski/board & let him ski, or if highmarking, the guy standing can make the turn out & hop off, handing the sled to the sitter.

My main issue is I ride with too many other people to trust the other guy with one side of my sled, and not many people that I access ride with have the sled capabilities to get to the top of where we ride.

Last year I did some tow work for Matchstick & gave this Rory kid a ride up a few times, he rode Canadian, on the left side of the sled, holding his skis in one hand & the powder bar in the other hand, this guy was 190lbs+ & it felt like I was on the sled by myself, so if the other person knows what they're doing, it works fine.

We've been rocking this set up since O4 with good results.
Rack is made by the x-rack crew in Utah. Sleds have rolled without consequence.
What I like is that the racks remove from the sled completely in less the two minutes, when not in use.

We have a tendency to ride side by side, though if the girl is part of the crew, I tend to ride her in front of me more often then not.
If groomed roads are involved we will also tow utilizing the common two inner tube method.

One thing that I haven't heard mentioned (or maybe I missed it) is pay attention to your belt wear. By doubling up on a sled you are making the driveline work harder. Generally speaking the belt will start to wear faster. Proper clutch set up will help to minimize this.

Lushbomb aka: oneshot

u can watch the whole cornydog flick on my site now if interested.. fat dudes hangin out on mountains in the NW.

just say no to chair 2!!!!! alpy is overrated :)

Lushbomb,
You're part of the Corndog crew?
I met a couple of guys with stickers on their boards in line at chair two last season..

Can't say enough good things about CFR racks. Super tough amazing product. Two seasons back I forgot to turn off the tree magnet and ended up smashing my rear tunnel really good. The only part that didn't get crushed like tin foil was the square brackets from the CFR mount. Later that same season, my sled rolled a good 100 yards flipping some 10 times with a board in the rack. Rack survived without damage, only broke out one of the rivets. Here's my setup:

Lushbombs gun rack method is pretty stellar, just need to get the exact brand he has. Some other buddies tried to use other brands only to have them break pretty quickly.

TomMTX,

We ski/ride a lot of the same aspects.
Usually on opposing ends of our shuttle set up, I recognize your sled, and am used to seeing it passing us going the opposite direction on numerous occasions. :p

GPS Mount is a ram mount. Another awesome product. I used to carry my GPS in my jacket pocket till I took the bars to the chest and smashed out the screen. Doh. At least it was under warrenty, thanks Delorme!

As for the float plate, I'm using a Skinz. I collect some snow every once and while and it ices sometimes, but it's really doesn't bother me to much. Only time it sucked was last winter when the temp in my garage sat at below freezing for over a week and the ice never melted off before the next ride.

And PassRev sure I seen your crew there. Not a lot of people in 'the zone' doing sled accessed runs. This particular spot is one of my favorites..love owning it. We call it "Slashers Delight" :beer;:

That's a good spot.
We call it rodeo ridge. Ha!
Easy to get to, and easy to shuttle.
I was thinking also of the Rock Rabbit Lake area as well.
We've been scoping our locations on the Stampede side with the enduros for the last two months. Was going to go today again, however it's been pizzing hard up here. 8 degrees cooler and we'd be road running with the sleds by this afternoon.

Yeah that spot looks sweet. We have similar spots here and yeah no one...:)

Cool on making your own rack but the think I also like about my cfr rack is that I picked up this little bag last year and it works awesome for extra glove, first aid, tow stuff etc.

yeah those CFR full racks are for surely sweet if you wanna put some coin into it.. always need extra gloves and goggles etc when going double duty days.. i'm thinking about some sort of rack system on my cat this season.. will see if it manifests..

norona, u got some sweet clips for sure.. we're still working out sledding and filming.. we epically failed last yr blowing up several video cams.. plus the real powder didn't hit till march here in Wa.

i uploaded a bunch of segments to youtuibe the other night of our last flick. CornDog Diaries.. here's the opener segment

these are TomMTX and my projects.. fat dudes hangin out on hills in the NorthWest :):beer;

Norona,

Nice vid.
I'm quite in awe of your above tree line sled access up there.
On our last ski trip up, we got into a conversation with a Whistler local over breakfast, about his sled and ski rig (visible outside on his truck). He basically told us to never, ever purchase a lift ticket or come to BC without our sleds again.

A trip is in our near future, working on a local hook up now.

Norona, those are sweet little digi cams and take some nice video actually... we are trying to get some more HD cams, we destroyed one last season running it over in the truck.. haha.. dont ask!! before that we had a handful of panasonic 3ccd cams.. those were awesome and take killer quality for video for what we're doing..

we're hoping to run into more snomo-boarders this season and film alot more.. and actually start filming sledding more.. now that we have a good group of guys that actually have sleds now... lift chairs are a thing of the past for me!! boarding might end up that way to.. sledding is waaaay to fun!!!

here is our full length 22 min corndog flick... we have done a full length for 3 yrs in a row trying to keep tradition going but we blew to many cams last yr :(
the riding isn't pro but i like to think we show a good time and put alot into our amatuer productions.. the good times is most important ;) u guys should like this one for just that..

Above tree line, sooo jealous. Nice flicks. And who you calling fat lushbomb? :beer;

Be warned.
I have said this to a number of people and none believe me at first.
You will find yourselves using the snowmobiles more and more and the boards less and less till all you do is sled.

You say this like its a bad thing!

Plus it sets you up to have more fun in more situations when the pow is not as deep as you hoped hide the boards under a tree and go sleddin. When the alpine is socked in or the avi danger is to high hit some tree runs. When its perfect nothin beats taking turns making big pow turns on the sled and the board.

As a snowboarder turned sledhead buy a mt sled and you will never regret it!
