B4 U get home and post ur look at me on Baker Video....a lesson on Mt Etiquitte!

We are Skagit local Baker regulars from Anacortes as many of you know. We have introduced a lot of people to the area, helped a lot of people get unstuck, and have been members of the club and SAR in the past. We also hike up during the fall and move a couple of tons of rocks to keep the creek xing better (have you noticed how there has been no drop down to the water in the last few years).

Unfortunately I have to call out a group that showed up today even if that means I'm a DIK (which I am)! We ride up...no tracks up the creek. We see a group of 8 down at the bottom of the creek (keep in mind this is like 10:30am). We bust up the creek and lay 3 tracks up Sulfer on the left with a nice "down track" on the right. Within 90 seconds this group of 8 shows up and immediately start trenching trenching the "down track". One of our group drops in to try to get away from the madness and one of the other group literally follows him up Sulfer 20' behind his bumper...our guy turns out and guess who is right F$#@#$ng there? Near collision!

We decide to just get up as high as we can and try to side hill across before it gets stupid trenched and 1 buddy makes it, the other washes out and gets stuck in a giant trench. The "others" keep climbing the same trench even though he is stuck about 20' from the top and 1 guy comes withing 5' of hitting him! Another near collision! I was soooo pissed I did the same thing to one of the other group because I wanted to get away from them so bad...not a good choice as I could have cut an avy on him:face-icon-small-fro A true moment of weakness and I apologize.

We finally get over Sulfer and decide we should head FAR right to give them and us some room. NOPE. They follow our lines exactly and even though we skip dropping down into 2 or 3 canyons.... they have to come over and down exactly where we are 10 minutes after we get there!

Seriously, there are 20,000 acres of riding area and only 11 of us on the mountain today....can you PLEASE stay right off our arsk? If we are trying to break a trail and you pull up with your turbos, can you PLEASE take a minute to see what we are doing before you totally destroy it and try to kill our friend? Once we are out there, if you see us down in an area, can you PLEASE just move on to the next area rather than swarm and burn? Can you PLEASE make your own tracks? Show some class and give people some room. Most of us sled because we don't want to be stuck in the lift line with the idiot masses and that's exactly what you brought to what would have been a great day of riding:rant:

I think some people just get excited when they run into really good riders and get caught up in wanting to "shred" right there with them. Not an excuse for their etiquette, but a possible explanation?

Good snow...3' deep in the untracked and probably 2' on top of yesterdays tracks. Getting a littler warmer when we left but should still be good above Peanut.

Rt

I can understand the frustration. Should have ridden yesterday, visibility sucked but we only saw 2 other people riding in the same area as us. I've only been to Baker once before and don't know the area but there are a lot of places to be ridden up there. Common courtesy is all but gone these days, proven from the posers in the parking lot Saturday morning ripping around like they were at I90. Best thing to do is just out ride them to get away. If nothing else it pushes your riding to find new areas.

Etiquette, that's hilarious! I'm not sure it exists in the snowmobiling community. It isn't just Baker, but it does seem worse up there.

I really love it when I stop, pull out the video camera below a nice section of untracked pow, then a group comes in and destroys it.

Luckily I've never had any safety issues. That's total B.S.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.................... YOU CANT FIX STUPID!!!! You can only run from them. :)

It's sunny

Driving to work this morning I almost started crying, yesterday baker pulls a double double 24" in 24 hours then it's bluebird this morning! How was it? We need some pics and video.

What happened to the simple rule one machine on the hill at a time for safety? This sort of behavior, even if there is no collision, is not safe!

I want to be fair to my fellow sledders

I want to be fair and am trying to get what you are saying.

When it comes to safety I think it is really important to understand the rules.

Don't follow too close, one rider on the hill at a time, If you have a guy stuck don't cut an avy high marking above a stuck sledder.

I get that side.

What I don't get is the possession of the "Down track". If you were a snow boarder or skier then I would understand leaving you a decent strip to play on.

I also like riding near other riders at Baker particularly when their is only a few riders up there. If someone follows me 10 minutes after me that's great if I run into serious trouble then they can help me.

If they don't mind riding in my tracked snow then I am always getting the fresh tracks. Perhaps they are new riders and don't know the good areas and are happy to pay for the experience with riding in your used areas?

I am not trying to be a Dik but beyond keeping my distance for safety I ride anything fresh in front of me. I would need the rules of etiquette spelled out because I would not want to be unfair to another rider intentionally.

If you just try to climb a steep slope you have to fight each other's trenches. If you trench one side and make a smooth, single down track when it is high enough you can climb the down track much more smoothly and with enough speed to carry you over the top.

Ride how u like but this was a group of 8-9 sledders.

Actually, there are 8473 acres in the whole NRA. Many of those are undesirable riding acres...
I would have called them out on the spot. Cant stand being groped by other men.
