So I rode Excelsior yesterday. Man it was REALLY deep. Like 5 feet total new snow. We didn't ride anything that was high avy danger except We did ride one open face for just a couple pulls to test some clutching which was the main reason for the ride. This spot was well under 30 degrees then rose sharply up to maybe 45 degrees. That said we didn't see ANY avy sign at all. I'm wondering if the snow pack is so heavy it has collapsed and bonded the snow pack in the area we rode. BE CAREFUL!

Avy danger

Yes at some point I'm pretty sure you can bury weak layers so deep there not a threat. With that being said within a few miles of there. The Mt. Baker patrol was able to produce slides estimated at 5-7' off of Shuskan Arm Monday morning on a lee aspect that has been continually wind loaded during this storm cycle.

Now that is some crazy ****!! 5-7 feet deep Slab

I popped one today, luckily it was only on a 20ft hill, but it was still an eye opener.

There's a video on youtube where guys hammer a hill for awhile and have no issue than try and double up and whammo it cuts loose.

Thought i would pass this along.
...AVALANCHE WARNING IN EFFECT FOR THE EAST SLOPES OF THE
WASHINGTON CASCADES NORTH OF SNOQUALMIE PASS THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY...

ANOTHER 10 TO 15 INCHES OF NEW SNOW SINCE TUESDAY HAS ADDED ENOUGH
ADDITIONAL LOADING TO TRIGGER A WIDESPREAD NATURAL AVALANCHE CYCLE
WEDNESDAY MORNING AS REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OBSERVERS. THESE
AVALANCHES WERE LARGE AND POTENTIALLY DESTRUCTIVE, RUNNING LONG
DISTANCES ON A VARIETY OF ASPECTS. IT IS LIKELY THESE AVALANCHES
HAVE RELEASED ON A KNOWN WEAK LAYER ASSOCIATED WITH A LATE JANUARY
CRUST AND WEAK SNOW ABOVE IT. OF THE SLIDES THAT WERE OBSERVED
CLOSE AT HAND, CROWN DEPTHS REACHED TO 6 FEET DEEP AND RAN VERY LONG
DISTANCES OVER LONG STRETCHES OF FLAT TERRAIN IN THE VALLEY
BOTTOMS.
