Avy Courses...Are They Worth It?

It's great that you bought the equipment but it will not do you any good if you do not know how to use it! Every reply here is right on so:) please take note.

People have been caught up in avy's and have never left the trail. If you ride a sled, buy a beacon and probe, go to a class and learn how to use them and then wear them. My hubby and I go to a course every year (this will be #5 for us) and have gotten our group to go as well. They are great refreshers when you have not touched the beacon all summer.

Bottom line, at the end of the day, I want to see everyone make it back to the parking lot so we can talk about the awesome day we had riding and make plans for the next one! :)

We just finished our field training for the AST1 this weekend. After the classroom I was skeptical as I could of learnt what I did from self research instead of sitting in a classroom for two night, but the field session was a real eye opener, it ties everything together and its amazing how much you dont know with how to react to a real avy situation.

Highly Recommend.

At class, I learned I would die in a multi burial. Or if I was a searcher in a multi burial we wouldn't have had a chance to find the group. This is based on how the practice searches went down, not good.

Learned how to manage a situation. Found we needed better beacons and more practice. I thought we were pretty conservative for how and where we ride, but it turned out we were putting our selves at more risk than we realized.
