Avalanche in Prince George

I hate to relay this, but it sounds like we lost another sledder in an avalanche north east of Prince George. The season just started and we already have had a loss. They haven't released the name yet but there are some locals with rumors. This a traggic loss that I hope no one has to experience. I went through it last year and we lost a good friend. It has change my life forever and how we ride. Just a reminder, take the avy coarse, try to be prepared with the right equipment. Be patient after a large snow fall and give the snow some time to set up. Just a reminder, ride safe and come home to your family to ride again.

Prayers to their family... It's always tough to lose one out of our community but it's an eye opener for all of us to be safe in the backcountry.

Very sad news, so early in the season....

Doesn't sound good at the moment but I guess we have to wait for S&R to do their thing.

I see that the general public is putting their usual uncalled for comments at the bottom of the article. Geez that ruffles my feathers.

Ya just saw him at the Edm. Snow Show. Went to school with him for years, although he was a few years younger and I knew his brother better.
Good, hardworking guy, will be missed.

So sad to hear. What are the odds that there was a problem with both units. I would like to know would be good to know, something we all have to check on

Very sad! I agree...what are the odds that both of his Avalanche Safety devices failed? I can understand not being able to deploy the bag if it all happens so quickly, but the beacon...this should always work in my mind. Really sad and it hurts my heart thinking of him and his family.

Sadly like All equipment it needs to be checked for proper opperation pryor to use
and in a avy your heads not always clear enough to grab a pull handle to save your own life.

Where are you people getting the idea that his gear failed? The first article says there were doubts that they even had beacons. Did his buddy even attempt a beacon search (or was he even equipped to?) or did he just call for help? If he did search, how long did he search for? If they were not aware of the hazard to the point that they didnt have beacons, was the trigger on his airbag out and ready to pull? Those questions need to be answered before blaming gear failure.
